The printing part of our busi-ness has hitherto been known as the WASATCH PRESS hut we are now dropping that name for good, and only the name Progressive Opinion will be used. We no longer solicit job printing and do only an occas ional job for a friend. Good-bye WASATCH PRESS . Long will its memory live. Neighbor James E. Hart was 87 years of age last Monday four score snd seven. He has not only lived long but he haa lived well. What a poor world he came into in comparison with the world he sees today. We congratulate him and wisli for him that he mav reach the century mark. .The President turns back to the treasury all of his salary in exce s of $25,000. He is advo-cating the post war building ot 34,000 miles of new roads. F. C. Johnson of this city advoca-ted this for years. Let it come. Our old Friend and Neigh-bor Arthur Robinson has de-parted this life. Yars ago he was in the old city council and was once offered $10,000 for his vote which he refu;ed. He founded the Robinson Shoe Co. and the Palace Laundry and yet he died without evan a news write up. He is the man we once told of as sitting in this office and actually weeping over statements in a high eclcs-iast- 's speech against assistance to the aged. We never knew a man who hewed closer to the line of personal and busines hon or. We believe his worn and tired body and mind welcomed the peace and rest of the grave He was neaiing 90. We had an idea old January would be dull but we never thought it would freeze every dollar in the world. We too need something to back the at tack with the economic attack Yes, We Know Very Well That It Is Coming Having read the book Under Cover, we will say that we yield to none in our awareness of the fact that what is there threatened is coming. We have been giving out warnings foiryear. Add to it serious capital and labor troubles it makes a gloomy picture. We say positively that the aggres-soi- s, in attempting to take over, will destroy themselves as well as those they oppose, and rub off the map the civilisation they aim to preserve. You may bank on this. It is just ahead. We see and feel it. Choose your side. New Order forChurch Iff " x ' ! " "COW-X- WVCf-'- - j (Ft-- Pkl Z Ol-- The original of this picture was conceived and painted by the famous j artist, Howard Chandler Christy, In vivid color and heroic proportions as an artistic symbol for the Crusade for a New World Order. This move-ment, led by the Council of Bishops of The Methodist Church, Is this denomination's part in a general" effort of fhe churches to register In advance with the peacemakers ap- - proval of such post-w- ar collabora-tion among the nations as will guar-antee future peace. A hundred mass meetings In key cities during January, a transcribed radio series on scores of stations, posters, periodical and pamphlet lit- - erature and a sermon on the picture title in every one of the 42,000 Meth- - odist pulpits on January 30 are items in the program. , SOME TIMELYJDIT0R1ALS Let's Learn to See Vision of the Present MIGHT AS WELL OPPOSE THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT To be opposed to Freedom from Want and Freedom from Fear is much like being opposed to The Sermon on the Mount. There were lawyers in Jerusalem, sticklers for the letter and ignorant of the spirit, who said to themselves after they had heard of the immortal Sermon: "We've got this strange pretender now. His doctrine is heresy, im-practicable, unworkable, even dangerous." Before His in-spired word they were as dead men's bones and blinded to the vision that blazed from those immortal words, They could look backward to Moses and the prophets and garnish their sepulchres because they were long dead, but they could see absolutely nothing in the living Christ. Is history repeating itself? The one vision that has flamed out of the war rises from the Atlantic Charter and the Four Freedoms, to which some lawyers are as blind and deaf as were the lawyers in Jerusalem. "It can't be applied. It won't work. It's political trickery." O ye of little faith! Know you not that where there is no vision the people perish? God pity your stubborn blindness? With more than half of the world's population perishing in the dark gulfs of Fear and Want people are admonished to smother the one bright hope that looms on the horizon and fall back into the swamps of the battle of greed for gain for the few and want and fear for the many! Here is what a noted writer says about the Atlantic Charter in the magazine Destiny: "A New Order is em-bodied in the Atlantic Charter, a document much more re-markable than has yet been recognized. A manifesto that registers a marked advance upon anything before reached in history. It is a noble vision. It is the goal of ancient prophets become the goal of satesmen with their visions translated into national policies. The whole development bears every mark of the overruling direction of God." I j NEIGHBOR HART ASKS A QUESTION Shortly after the April conference of 1943, Pres. J. Reu-ben Clark was quoted by the Deseret News as having said: "When the church asks the members to do something the members have no right to use their own discretion." Does this mean that when Pres. Clark as dictator of the policies of the church paper, the Deseret News, admonishes the people to be Republican reactionaries through extremely partisan edi-torials, and leads them to read all the fault finding against the ' government thatvcan be imagined, that the saints must acquie-sce even against their better judgment? Must they follow precept and example in hating the president? Respectfully, James E. Hart. THE TRUE AMERICAN SPIRIT "In such a capacity responsible publishers cannot afford to be unfair, spiteful, sacrilegious or disrespectful of consti-- I tutional authority. ..Flippancy in discussing serious matters during a grave crisis is not a good way to impress youngsters or newly made citizens with lessons in loyalty or with pride ; in our institutions. It is not very consistent to flout one recog-- ! nized authority while upholding another functioning under the same flag. Caesar has his dues the same as Deity, accordi-ng to a great Teacher who held that peace should begin at home." Tribune. HERE IS BASIS FOR RELIGIOUS UNITY Inasmuch as those interested in the Baha'i Faith are working toward religious unity we deem it well to offer the following as a basis upon which all might come to a unity of. the faith. It is the Golden Rule differently expressed. The Hindus say: "The true rule is to do by the things of others as you do by your own. Zoroastrianism: Do as you would be done by. Buddhism: One should seek for others the happiness one desires for one's self. Confucianism: What you would not wish done to yourself do not to others. Tao-- i ism: Recompense injury with kindness. Judaism: Whatever ynn do not wish vour neighbor to do to you do not unto him. Christianity: All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you do ye even so to them. Islam: Let none of you treat a brother in a way he himself would dislike to be treated. Bahai Cause: If you look toward justice, choose for others that which you choose for yourselves. C.V.Hansen Mr. Average Citizen, in what company do you find yourself? In the last analysis a man is judged by the company he keeps. Surely you prefer to be associated with real friends of temper- - ,. ance, not only from the standpoint of respectability, bat becaus they have right on their side, and moral conciderations must come first. COOPERATION WILL SOLVE THE POST-WA- R PROBLEMS ' Plan No. 2 ' ' Another plan which we believe will solve post-w- ar unemp-loyment is CONSUMER COOPERATION The Rochdale Plan. It has a program which substitutes employment for un-employment, peace for violence, construction for destruction, evolution for revolution. It means peace and order, class and 'ace friendships, plenty in place of want, democracy instead of wealth and power in tne dictatorship, lower cost of living, wnds of the people. This plan has now proved itself over a - Period of 100 years. If applied to all the economic needs ol the people it will do much toward making the perfect society. Cooperation has, according to the president of the Agritful-- 'ural college, given the Scandinavian countries the best pre-- i ar civilization in the world. It will do as much for other countries. . Among the more important principles are (1) open voiun- - t"y membership regardless of sex, race, creed, or Plltlcal affiliations and includes the right of voluntary withdrawal without loss of capital contribution if enterprise be solvent (2) democratic control, usually expressed in the words one "fan, one vote, no more"; (3) limited returns to capital from on fte theory that capital is "hired"; (4) savings resulting Joint effort apportioned according to the participation ol tne "'operators; and (5) neutrality in matters extraneous to a co- - operative economy. . The practices include (1) selling for cash at market prices (2) employment of trained personnel at prevailing wages. and u"der good working conditions; (3) dissemination of pertinent afi accurate information as to the duties and rights of cooper JJ. and the benefits flowing from their working together. 'J) Providing meetings for discussion, study, and (or) recre atln; ot the and (5) providing for the continuous expansion Operative form of enterprise.
