Show Philo T. Edwards Resigns as Alpine Board Member Upon the advice of his personal physician, Philo T. Edwards has tendered his resignation as a member mem-ber of the Alpine School District Board of Education. Mr. Edwards was appointed a member of the Board of Education in November, 1951, to fill the unexpired term I left vacant by the death of Victor C. Anderson. In 1952, he was elec- I ted to a 5-year term of office, and was reelected as a member of the Board in November, 1957. J. Murray Rawson, manager of Fashion Fabrics, Inc., Provo, was appointed by the Alpine School District Board of Education, to fill the unexpired term of Mr. Edwards. Ed-wards. He will represent Precinct No. 5 of Orem, and will serve until 1960. Mr. -Rawson is a native of Salt Lake City. He attended Salt Lake City schools and the University of Utah. Much of his life has been spent in Idaho where he was active in community and church affairs. Here he was a justice of the peace. His church activities include missionary mis-sionary service in Canada, service as a bishop, member of the stake High Council, Stake Clerk, and . first counselor iin Stake Presidency. Presiden-cy. At present, he is a scout master. mas-ter. Mr. Rawson resides at 624 South 560 East, Orem, with his wife and four children. The Board granted leaves of absence ab-sence to Arlo F. .Shelley and Jean A. Fugal of American Fork Jr. and Sr. High School for the school year 1958-59. Tfcse teachers will study at the University of Utah under sponsorship of the National Science Foundation, where they will receive instruction on current information and practices in science sci-ence and mathematics education. The goal of the National Science Foundation Program is to upgrade the science and mathematics teaching teach-ing in our schools by offering this specialized training to selected persons per-sons who are already teaching.
