Show ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWS i A Spanish theme was the motif for the annual Fall Faculty party held at Grovecrest School Friday evening. The invitations were written writ-ten on a Mexican sombrero The menu for the full course dinner included Spanish dishes enchiladas, en-chiladas, tamales, Aroz Estanelas, Fritos, saladas, legumbres y fruta, tequila and pudin da tel. During- the dinner Rulon Brim-hall Brim-hall serenaded the diners with Spanish songs and guitar music. Following the meal, special guest W. M. Vernon, directed the Spanish-costumed participants in an hour of social dancing. The committee in charge of the unique affair included Gordon Walker, Donna Ash, Patsy Grover, Lily Mills, Viola Morton and Vera Wagstaff. ESN A straw vote was conducted on Tuesday morning- at Grovecrest school for all students in grades Second to Sixth. The results were as follows: For President Eisenhower, Eisen-hower, 186, Stevenson, 34; for U. S. Senator,, Bennett, 185, Hopkins 35; for U.S. Representative, Dawson Daw-son 176, McConkie 44; for governor Clyde, 164, Romney 32, and Lee 24. . ESN - Edna Newman, teacher at the Grovecrest School, is in the American Amer-ican Fork Hospital, convalescing from an illness. ESN Funeral services were held in an American Fork mortuary at 1 p.m. Tuesday for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brock. Mr. Brock is a teacher at Grovecrest Schoool. A good representation of Grovecrest personnel and students attended the services. ESN "Response of the community to our Halloween Family Night exceeded ex-ceeded all our expectations," said Central School Principal Calvin Walker. Although no definite count was made, school personnel person-nel estimate that more than 3,000 students, parents and friends attended at-tended the celebration. According to Principal Walker the Family Night Halloween party idea was initiated by Central School eleven years ago; and has grown in popularity since then. Reports from Grovecrest School are equally favorable regarding the Oct. 31 party held here. At any rate, householders were greatly relieved re-lieved when the customary onslaught on-slaught of tiick-or-treaters failed to materialize. In fact, the streets were practically deserted, except for a few toddlers accompanied by their parents. Teachers, parents, PTA officers and students are to be congratulated congratul-ated on the wholesome way in which Halloween was celebrated this year in Pleasant Grove. ESN A new Studentbody Council was organized Monday at Grovecrest School. The new officers are Viv- ian uoode, president; Marilyn Fraughton, vice president; Elaine Johnson, secretary; Kathleen Johnson, John-son, treasurer and Emma Lou Mann, Bill Warnick, H. E. Nielson, Sharma Swenson, Joy Roundy and Grant Monson, representatives. The council will meet each Monday with Principal Donna Ash. ESN Each month the Utah Oil Co. makes available to the Elementary Schools of Alpine District a picture pic-ture film on current news. The film is accompanied by an explanatory explan-atory booklet. This month's edition edi-tion has to do with the Salt Lake Mormon Temple and the Tabernacle Taber-nacle Choir. ESN Students at Grovecrest were entertained en-tertained Wednesday at 10 a.m. with a program presented by the Fifth Grade. ESN The corridors at Grovecrest have been beautiful all week with Halloween Hal-loween decorations. The Fourth Graders were responsible for the progrram of decoraation. ESN The annual Fall Party for the Grovecrest personnel will be held on the evening of Friday, Nov. 2. The committee in charge of arrangements ar-rangements includes Gordon Walker, Walk-er, chairman; Donna Ash, Vera Wagstaff, Patsy Grover, Viola Morton and Lillie Mills. ESN Mrs. Wagstaff's Second Graders Grad-ers of the Grovecrest made a study visit to the City Fire Department recently. ESN Police Officer John Huntsman visited the Grovecrest school last Friday. He talked to the Second Grade students on safety at school in the home and on the highway. |
