The Vikings came close again in the fourth quarter when consistent con-sistent football carried the ball to the Lehi 9 only to lose possession on a fumble. The Pioneers did best offensively offensive-ly in the fourth quarter, after the Vikings fumbled on their own 10-yard 10-yard line. Rex Scott, Bill Hayes, and Ralph Haws bulled the ball to the P.G. one-foot marker but lost As predicted by many of the local football faithful the Pleasant Grove High School Vikings have copped the Region VH Football Championship for the second consecutive con-secutive year. The history-making feat was accomplished last Friday afternoon on the turf of the Lehi High School campus and at the expense of the Lehi Pioneers. The score after 48 minutes of official play was P.G. 12, Lehi 0. The day was cold, below freezing freez-ing in fact, and the usual Lehi wind swept in from the north. There is little doubt that the weather played a part in holding down the score and boosting the number of miscues and fumbles. The play, however, was hard-fought hard-fought and unusually clean. The Alger boys started the frac- the ball on a fumble which ended their scoring chances for that series ser-ies of play. The Vikings had another close call just minutes later. The Pioneers Pio-neers "quick-kicked" to the P.G. one-foot line but the Vikings were lucky and kicked out of danger. Defensively Karl Ingram, Clifton Cook, Alan Bahr and Neil Young were best for Lehi. For Pleasant Grove it was Johnny Butt, Gene Ash, Rial Allen and Russell Pack. It's on to St. George for the Vikings on Friday morning. The semi-final game with the Dixie Flyers has been set for 1 p.m. Saturday on the Dixie field. Should the Alger Boys get over this one, they will meet the winner win-ner of Friday's Millard-Union game for the State B-Championship. The final game is set for a field in the Salt Lake City area at 12 noon, Friday, November 16. |
