Show Lehi Tops in Region VII Basketball Race With the end just three weeks away the Region VII basketball race is tighter than a Scotchman's purse strings. Lehi climbed to the pinacle Friday night by clubbing Pleasant Grove 56-45 in a thriller on the Pioneer court. American Fork showed considerable consid-erable power in swamping BY High 67 to 45 in a walk-awav. The PG loss and the AF win deadlocked the two teams in second place. This tie will be broken tomorrow tomor-row night when the Vikings and Cavemen meet at 8 p.m. in the local gym. Judging from PG's squeek-by, when the teams met January 11 at American Fork and AF's decisive win over BY High, this game looks like a tossup. In the other Friday night games Lehi should have no difficulty at Nephi with the faltering Wasps and BY High should hand the Tin-tic Tin-tic Miners their seventh straight setback. In individual scoring statewide, Charley Brindley of Piute contin- ues as head man with a 23.2 average; aver-age; Bruce Hill, Gunnison hot shot is still in second with 20.5 and Phil Bryson of Uintah has replaced replac-ed Carl Ingram of Lehi for third, with a 19.0 average. Ingram is still tops in Region VII with 18.7 and Arnell Winters of PG has climbed up a notch to take second with 15.1. Dan Buck-ner, Buck-ner, due to an under par night at Lehi, is currently in sixth place with a 10.1. Standings, as the teams head into the seventh round, look like this : Teams Won Lost Lehi 5 1 Pleasant Grove 4 2 American Fork 4 2 BY High 3 3 Juab 2 4 Tintic 0 6 |
