Show Special Council Meeting Held; Discuss Sewer Pleasant Grove City Council-met Council-met in special session Monday night to consider further details relative to the construction of a sanitary sewer. Meeting with the council members, at the request of the Mayor, were the Sewer Study Committee; Loren Gibbs, financial expert from Salt Lake City; and a group of representative citizens from the "fringe areas" of the city. Fringe areas are those por- tions of the city proper which are closely adjacent to the areas peviously designated to be served with the sewer. Highlight of the meeting was the canvas of the results of a questionaire circulated among the residents of these fringe areas. The response of the 240 home-owners who were contacted was most gratifying. The final tabulation showed that 204 were favorable to the proposed setup, with only 36 opposed. In the interest of a more complete com-plete understanding of the various financial details of the proposed plan, The Review is printing herewith here-with the complete questionaire recently circulated: The Financing Plan for Sewer installation stipulates the following follow-ing costs for sewer users: 1. $50.00 connection fee to be paid when construction contract is let (approximately November 1, 1954). This payment will install a sewer setup from the street lateral lat-eral to your property line. 2. $2.50 service charge per month, beginning when sewer is installed. It is estimated by the Engineers, that the sewer construction constru-ction costs can be paid within 20 to 22 years and the service charge thereafter should be 50c per month to cover operation and maintenance. mainten-ance. 3. You must install your house service line on your own property. The cost averages $1.60 per foot less if you dig and cover your own trench more if you have paved areas to be cut, or outbuildings, etc., to be moved. 4. There will be a small tax levy charged against every property prop-erty owner within the City, whether wheth-er sewer users sor not. This levy will re-pay the principal on $120,-000 $120,-000 General Obligation Bonds to defray the Sewer Disposal Plant and main sewer trunk line. These items are considered a general city improvement and should therefore be paid by the city as a whole. For the average home (with assessed valuation of $1500) this levy will be 2 1-2 mills or $3.75 per year. |
