Show Cadmus Club Holds Meeting; Discusses Subject of Religion The monthly meeting of the Cadmus Cad-mus Club was held at the home of Mrs. Phyllis Thomson on Wednesday, Wednes-day, Feb. 25. President Laura Cromar was in charge of the meeting and wel-c- nied members and special guests, Mrs. Ernest P. Smith, Mrs. LaVell Boron, Mrs. Lloyd Boren and Mrs. Thomas Adam-son. The club collect was read by Mrs. Rose Hillman and Mrs. Paye Belliston lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Alle-giance. Mrs. Lucile Hillman, chairman of the educational committee, introduced intro-duced the members of a panel who discussed the subject "Finding a Common Ground in Religion." Member's of the panel were Mrs. Effie Adams, moderator, Mrs. Carol Car-ol Wells, Mrs. Helen Wadley and Mrs. Lurena Warnick. Mrs. Adams, in introducing the subject, stated that to live peace- ably with people is everyone's desire de-sire but because of world conditions con-ditions and -the great increase in population it is not only a desire but a necessity that we live at peace with cur neighbors. We can no longer be isolated but must live in close association with many people so we must learn how to live and work with them. It is through finding a common ground in religion reli-gion that people can best accomplish accom-plish this. Knowing and understanding under-standing the beliefs and motives of other religious groups is finding this common -ground. The panel members felt that If they acquainted the club with some of the local religious groups it would sei-ve a greater purpose than to discuss world religions. They gave a very interesting and informative infor-mative review of the origin, history and beliefs and work of the local Baptist group, the Jehovah Witnesses Wit-nesses in American Fork, and the Catholic group or Trappist Monks, located in Huntsville, Utah. Mrs. Ida Brimhall gave a report on the Legislative Council meeting meet-ing held recently in Provo. "Sex offenders" was the subject discussed dis-cussed by four panel members, Mrs. Elsa Harris, chairman of the Cild Welfare Clinic; Dr. Owen P. Henager, head of the State Mental Men-tal Hospital; Dr. V. F. Houston, head of the State Training School and the acting warden of the State prison. Mrs. Brimhall said th-s- panel pan-el members spoke of the great number of sex offenders, the very difficult matter of handling and treating them and great need for places and facilities to care for and teach these offenders. Mrs. Phyllis Thomson, chairman of the Mother of the Year committee, com-mittee, announced that Mrs. Jean-nette Jean-nette Warnick, Pleasant Grove's Mother' of the Year, had been chosen cho-sen as Timpanogos District alternate alter-nate mother. The hostess, with co-hostess Mrs. Faye Belliston, served delicious refreshments re-freshments to four guests and 22 club members. |
