Show Utah Symphony Opens Fourteenth Season On Nov. 4 The Utah Symphony orchestra opens its 14th season on November Novem-ber 4, according to David S. Rom-ney, Rom-ney, managing director, who has just announced the final plans for the 1953-54 concert series. In addition to ten concerts in Salt Lake City, the orchestra will play four concerts at Ogden and other concerts around the state, all the way from Logan to Cedar City. The touring schedule is now being drawn up and will include all town and cities that are interested in having a symphony concert and can assure a crowd of sufficient size to warrant a concert. Meanwhile, ticket sales for the regular concert series are underway under-way and requests are being received receiv-ed from all over the state, accor-din accor-din gto Mr. Romney. Guest artists . this year will include in-clude Helen Traubel, soprano; Jas-cha Jas-cha Heifetz, violin; Grant Johan-nesen, Johan-nesen, piano and Jakob Gimpel, piano. Walter Shaw, piano, Reid Nibley piano, Alexander Schreiner, organ and Concert Master Harold Wolf, violin, are local artists who will be featured with the orchestra orches-tra this year. "This orchestra is a state orchestra or-chestra and we want everyone in the state who loves music to feel that the orchestra is their orchestra," orches-tra," reported Mr. Romney. The annual progress fund drive is just being brought to a close. Contributions have been received from all around the state and "we hope to receive more," says Romney, Rom-ney, "because, it shows that the orchestra is appreciated and it also al-so helps in a material way.-' Maestro Maurice Abravanel -will return for his seventh season and most of the principal players will be back in the fold, according to Mr. Romney. |
