ALVIRA OLPIN Award ceremony of the American Ameri-can Mothers Committee honored Mrs. Albert H. (Alvira) Olpin, Alternate State Mother, with Mrs. Milton Bennion, State Mother and District Mothers. The awards were made April 12, 7:30 p.m. at the L. D. S. Institute of Religion Chapel at the University of Utah. People from all parts of Utah gathered to salute and honor the women whom the Utah Federation Feder-ation of Women's Clubs had nominated. nom-inated. Mrs. Walter A. Kerr, third vice president of the federation presided. presid-ed. Governor and Mrs. J. Bracken Lee were honored guests and the governor awarded the State Mother Moth-er of '52 the trophy. Beautiful string music was directed dir-ected by Louis W. Booth of the U. of U. Kenly Whitelock sang "Wonderful Mother of Mine," for the eight stately mothers. Obert C. Tanner gave an inspiring inspir-ing address of philosophy, "A New Order of Sainthood." The president of each federated district in the state introduced the mothers in her district who had been nominated and also the past "Mothers of the Year." Each mother was represented by a speaker to salute and give the highlights of her life after which a corsage was pinned on each by State President Mrs. I. R. Morrison. Mor-rison. These corsages were the courtesy of the State Florists Association. As-sociation. Aunt "Vie" Olpin responded . Rfter she was awarded and her beautiful moral and sincere statements state-ments caught every person's love and admiration there. "My husband hus-band and I did everything together toget-her and we taught our children that land and gold you can't take with you only the good that you do to serve your community and your fellow men." Mrs. Sytha Johnson, representing represent-ing the Cadmus Club was the speaker who saluted Mrs. Olpin. "We are all proud of Aunt 'Vie' and blessed are we who have journey with her," said Mrs. Johnson. The son of the State Mother, Dr. M. Lynn Bennion, Superintendent Superin-tendent of Salt Lake Schools, and son of Alternate Mother, Dr. A. Ray Olpin, President of University Uni-versity of Utah, offered the opening open-ing and closing prayers. An informal reception was enjoyed en-joyed in the Institute Lounge after the ceremonies. This Saturday at the Vermont Ward Chapel in Orem, the Timp-anogos Timp-anogos First District of Federated Clubs will honor Mrs. Olpin at the luncheon of its convention. |
