Show Civilian Defense Officials Have Set Washington's Birthday As 'Disaster' Rehearsal Day In P G Believing that "forewarned is forearmed," civilian defense officials offi-cials of Pleasant Grove have set Washington's birthday as the first "disaster" rehearsal of the local defense effort. According to Harold S. Walker, coordinator of the civilian defense program here, the defense rehearsal rehear-sal will be held in an effort to acquaint men, women and children with the importance of being ready for any emergency that might befall this strategic area. Every family between now and Washington's birthday should work out its own pattern of de- fense. Members should think as a unit what they would do if unwarned, un-warned, Geneva Steel Company should be bombed as one of the most strategic plants in the country's coun-try's effort, Mr. Walker stated. "This problem of civilian defense defen-se is very real here in this area. People should take it seriously and cooperate in whatever way they are asked to do by those appointed appoint-ed in their districts. Our area is, no doubt, one of two or three 'pinpointed' 'pin-pointed' districts of Western United Unit-ed States because of the steel works only a few miles from the heart of Pleasant Grove," Mr. Walker said. At a meeting Tuesday reports were made on districts, their status stat-us and personnel. The subject of the problem of air raid signals, besides the present fire siren, was discussed at the meeting. "The city council has appropriated appropria-ted money with which to buy a-nother a-nother signal or signals. It or they will probably be air whistles," Mr. Walker stated. A meeting has been scheduled Friday (tonight) at 7:30 p.m. in the city hall for the six wardens now appointed in the districts. They will have approximately 60 men chosen for block wardens to give them instructions in what they are supposed to do in case of disaster, Mr. Walker said. He also stated that Monday, Feb. 5, a meeting will be held under the direction of the fire department at which time fire wardens, who will make up the auxiliary fire department, will receive re-ceive instructions. That meeting will also be held at 7.30 p. m. "When all categories in the defense de-fense program are completed, every adult in the city will have a specific job to do. Defense officials hope that the response to this serious effort will be en-thuiastic en-thuiastic and sincere," Mr. Walker said.
