Show Petition Against Special Deer Hunt Signed By 300 Sportsmen Approximately 300 sportsmen of this area attached their signatures signa-tures to petitions to the Game Commission, protesting the special spec-ial deer hunt in the area of the Alpine-Timp and Orem-Timp Districts. Dis-tricts. The following is a copy of the petitions sent to the commission, which is self-explanatory: "We as a group, are concerned about the deer herd management in the area of the Alpine-Timp and Orem-Timp hunting districts. "In the past few years there have been special deer hunts call-in call-in these areas, continually. We agree that some of these hunts may have been necessary, but believe be-lieve that in 1952, the Week-End Nuisance Hunt was opened without with-out the Game Commission making a thorough study of the situation. We are of the opinion that, barring unusual weather, the conditional hunt written in the 1953 Hunting Proclamation, need not be held. "We also strongly protest, the policy of issuing ammunition and special permits to farmers of the ai ea, allowing them to shoot and kill deer at any time during the winter. We are alarmed by the practice, which is becoming common com-mon in this area of farmers, bragging brag-ging publicly of the number of deer they kill each winter, with "sheila furnished by the State." "As residents of the area and hunters of these districts, we feel well qualified to voice our opinions on this matter. May we be invited to assist in studying and solving this problem. |
