Show Graveside Rites Held Thursday For Lois Ellis j Graveside services and burial were conducted in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery Thursday for Miss Lois Ellis, 16 year old daughter daugh-ter of Martelle and Melbum Beck-stead Beck-stead Ellis, who died Tuesday, Oct. 11 of poliomyelitis, in Ancon, Canal Can-al Zone. Earlier services had been held in Murray, Utah. She was listed as the first person per-son to be stricken with polio in Guaemala in 15 years. Miss Ellis was taken to the Canal Zone July 19th. Her father, Martelle Ellis, is superintendent su-perintendent of the Combined Metl Co. smelter in Guatemala. Only, the previous week friends ' had learned that Miss Ellis had recovered sufficently to spend some time out of the iron lung which had been her home for many weeks. Born May 22, 1933, in Preston, Idaho, she was the daughter of Martelle and Melburn Beckstead Ellis. She later moved to Murray with her family. Her father then was superintendent of . Murray plant, American Smelting and Refining Re-fining Co. Miss Ellis attended Murray high school until May, 1949, when she left with her family for Guatemala. Survivors besides her parents, incluc two younger sisters, Ellen and Jannie Ellis, and a younger . brother, Tommy Ellis. |
