Show VIKINGS TRIUMPH BY SCORE OF 7-2 OVER A. F. CAVEMEN The Pleasant Grove Vikings got going early yesterday to capitalize on an American Fork fumble in the first few minutes of play and after one play through the line, Berdean Jarman faded back and shot a pass to end Doug Beck, who just managed to reach it and hold on long enough to plunge the last few yards for that important import-ant counter. It was probably the most spectacular play of the game and proved to be the deciding one. American Fork was able to march for several long gains, and in exchange of punts proved slightly superior to the P. G. crew, but their only score was a safety, as the Vikings defense held for several sev-eral determined drives by the Cavemen. , The outstanding player on the field yesterday was end Doug Beck. While Jarman played his ' usual good game both offensively and defensively, and Hall seemed to be in most of the plays thru the line, Beck thwarted almost every play that came his way, time after time brushing off two or three blockers to drop the ball carrier, once with A. F. on the three yard line, a touchdown putting them ahead and a probable prob-able victory. Baxter, the teams usually dependable de-pendable punter couldn't seem to get warmed up until the waning moments of the game, getting off some short ones in the third quarter quar-ter that continually kept the team on the defensive. However, his last two tries were beauties, the on being fumbled out of bounds on the twenty yard line and the last one kicked as the gun sounded was almost perfect, bounding out of play about the two yard marker. mark-er. The boys were out for a win yesterday and showed more spirit than any of their other games so far. The Cavemen, early season prospects for region honors, just couldn't match the determination and fight of the Vikings. Add to this some fumbles recovered by the alert Vikings and you just couldn't get by the P. G. team. This was the last home game for Pleasant Grove this season, the team meeting Lincoln, Lehi and BY High yet in games away from home. BY will probably suffer suf-fer from having beaten the Vikings Vik-ings in a preseason game,, and my bet is with continued spirit shown they will get the BY boys this time. Lehi should prove easy and mighty Lincoln looking for their region crown again this year had better watch out. |
