Show Vikings Top Alpine Division At Half Mark Pleasant Grove is resting on their laurels this week, drawing a bye while the rest of the teams in the Alpine division battle for consolation honors in the first half of play. The Vikings are on top of the heap as the half ends after a fairly convincing win over Lincoln Lin-coln last Friday night, 35 to 31. The Tigers from Lincoln broke the strings consistently during the first quarter to lead 9 to 5, but the Vikings came back strong to gain a 17 15 lead at the half, and then push it up to 26 to 20 at the third quarter. The last quarter had fans really wondering for a while as the lead narrowed down to a three and then two point margin with fifteen seconds to go and then Carl Hamann broke fast to get a set-up and set the game on ice. The boys looked better than in some of their previous games, but were missing badly at times dur-ing dur-ing the game. Bryan Bezzant topped top-ped the scorers with 14 points, but his percentage of shots was not as good as it might have been. Gourley was missing his best shot from the foul circle, and Junior Westover usually good for a few points, couldn't seem to hit the hoop. The floor game, however, looked good, both on defense and offense as they handled the ball nicely and kept control most of the game. |
