Show Canada Harvests Large Wheat Crop With a carryover of some 300 million bushels, the Canadian farmers farm-ers this last spring seeded an additional addi-tional 2 million acres of wheat. Here's the result: A 1940 crop of more than 500 million bushels of wheat. A carryover of around 300 million bushels of wheat. Commercial storage space for 380 million bushels. A total supply of more than 800 million bushels and room to store only a little more than a third of that. A prospect of a billion bushels supply sup-ply in 1941 with a market for 300,-000,000 300,-000,000 bushels. The Canadian farmers are marketing mar-keting under a quota which allows them to sell eight bushels of wheat from each acre. Yields have been running as high as 50 bushels per afcre. All wheat in excess of the eight bushels must be held on the farm. There is no market for it. So Canadian farmers are piling it loose on the ground. o |
