Show Richard Newman Sergeant Richard C. Newman, son of Clarence and Cora Cullimore Newman, was bom at Lynndy, Millard Mil-lard Co.mty, Utah. September 4th. 191 1. Prior to his graduation from the local high school in 19-12 he was active in school athletics; basketball basket-ball and track being a member of the basketball team which entered the state tournament in 1932. He was also a member of the M Men basketball team for several seasons. seas-ons. He acted as assitant Scoutmaster Scout-master in the Third Ward for sometime. He was inducted into the Armv of the I'nited States, July loth. 1941, receiving his basic training at Camp Roberts. California: he was then trasferred to Fort Ord, and later to Camp San Luis Obispo. He received a Corporal's ratine in September 1942. and in about threee weeks was advanced to Serjeant, Ser-jeant, wriich rank he now holds. About Novembre: 1, 1942, he with a few of his buddies, was sent to Camn Van Dorn Misslssinpi, to assist as-sist in organizing an entirely new divison, known as the 99th. He is still stationed at this point assisting assist-ing in the training of new recruits. |
