Show Ward Meetings Prove Interesting William C. Smith was featured as speaker at the M. I. A. conjoint services held in the First ward Sunday Sun-day evening. He talked on the subject sub-ject of Alma, and related the story of Alma and his son. Other numbers on the program were a song-fest led by M. I. A. chorister, Thelda Gardiner, and a piano solo by Carol Smith. The invocation in-vocation was offered ky Ertman Christensen, and the benediction by Heber Gardiner. Louise West, ai counselor to Mrs. Berniece Christensen, Christen-sen, presented the theme for the coming year, and also conducted the meeting. The story of Alma was presented in a colorful pageant at the M. I. A. ! conjoint services in the Second ward. The characters, dressed in costume, cos-tume, were Alma the son, Lowe Howard; Ho-ward; the three sons of Messiah, Harvey Christensen, Wilford Howard, Ho-ward, and Kenneth Wright; and La-Var La-Var Ash, the reader. The pageant was directed by Ilene P. Beck, and Reed Walker. The theme for the year was discussed dis-cussed by Erva Kirk, a scriptural reading was given by OraAnn Smith. The story of Alma and Amulek by Beth Meeks, and two violin solos by Miss Margeurite Hinchey, completed the program. The Third ward M. I. A. conjoint services held Sunday evening carried car-ried out the theme for the coming year: "My son keep thy Father's commandments. The program was presented under the direction of Mrs. Arvilla Harvey, conselor. Harold S. Walker introduced the new theme, explaining that it was taken from one of the proverbs of Solomon, and was given as a warning warn-ing to the young people of that day. He stressed the responsibility of parents par-ents in teaching the commandments of the Heavenly Father. The subject, "Alma the Exempler of True Repentance," was presented by Neils Fugal. He told the story of the conversion of Alma With the consequent repentance and explained explain-ed that the lesson taught by the story was that it is unwise to oppose op-pose the teachings of, those whom the Lord has called upon to carry on His work. A violin solo, "Berceuse" was played play-ed by Ramona Monson, accompanied by her sister, Winona. Congregational Congrega-tional singing was led by counselor, Louise C. Neilson. Officers and teachers of the First ward M. I. A. will be entertained at a social in the Timpanogos stake office building Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. Special guests will be the ward bishopric, Junius A. West, Harold Har-old Bullock, and Elvin Thorne, who will set the new officers apart. Refreshments Re-freshments will be served under the direction of the ward presidencies. Harvey Cobbley was the speaker at the Lindon ward M. I. A. conjoint meeting held Sunday evening in the ward chapel. He talked about Joseph Smith and gave scriptural readings in support of the authenticity authenti-city of the Book of Mormon as an inspired work. Other numbers on the program included a vocal solo by Elroy Murdock, Mur-dock, accompanied by Mrs. Murdock; a piano solo by Richard Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Anderson Ander-son of Salt Lake City.
