Show Manila's History Retold At 'Birthday' Reunion; Big Crowd Enjoys Party Manila's birthday party and ward reunion Saturday evening was enjoyed en-joyed by all present. On a lace covered table in the chapel was a beautifully decorated birthday cake placed between two tall white tapers. On the piano was a large blue bowl filled with red and gold tulips and golden alyssum. The dozen people who were living in the ward at the time of its organization were seated in comfortable chairs just in front of the pulpit. Among these was Joseph Halliday, the second counselor counse-lor in the first bishopric and first superintendent of the Sunday Shool; and Mrs. Annie Holman first president of the Young Ladies association. asso-ciation. Mr. Halliday who celebrated his ninetieth birthday Sunday, April 21, is the oldest person living in Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove. He is the only survivor of those who lived in Manila w:hen he moved there in 1877. His short talk of the ward organization was greatly enjoyed. Souvenir programs printed on gold paper were given to all present. The following program was rendered: rend-ered: Song, congregation; prayer, Joseph Larsen, counselor to Manila's second bishop, C. P. D. Wadley, "The Ward Chooses A Name" by Effie Warnick, "The Ward Grows Up", by H. B. Warnick (third bishop) ; solo, "Forgotten", Edward Sandgren; "The Ward Becomes Be-comes Part of the Timpanogos Stake", President Wilford W. Warnick, War-nick, (the fourth bishop) "The Ward Outgrows the Old Church", Lawrence M. Atwood (fifth bishop) "The Ward Builds a New Church", J. Arza Adams, (superintendent of building) solo, "Silver Threads Among the Gold," Marie Brown; "Recent -Achievements of the Ward," Helge V. Swenson (sixth bishop) ; solo, "I Know a Little Church House", Maurine Monson Andrews; reading, "The Old Quadrille", George Paul; presentation of an early ward reunion picture by Professor John C. Swenson of the B. Y. U. He also gave some interesting facts about the early history of the Pleasant Grove Third ward (as Manila was called) as taken from his father's (Knud Swenson's) diary. The membership mem-bership at the time of the organization organiza-tion was ninety people, sixty-two of them unuer eight years of age. Knud Swenson was the bishop with Will iam Wadley and Joseph Halliday as counselors; solo, "Make New Friends but Keep the Old," Ora Chipman; benediction, Annie Holman, who gave a mother's blessing to the assembled as-sembled guests. A delicious plate lunch was served to 240 people, ward members and former ward members from Provo, Holladay, Lehi, American Fork, Alpine, Al-pine, Pleasant Grove, ana Manila.
