"The Shepherd King," a pageant written by William C. Smith, will be presented by the Seminary graduates gradu-ates on May 12. The part of David will be taken by Glen Vicklund. The class periods are being spent in rehearsals. The senior high tennis team, the junior and senior high track teams, the junior and senior high dance groups and the senior high volley ball team vhich consists of Elsie Ellis, Veda Pack, Lucille Gray, Glida Jense, Naomi Steel, Beth Beveridge, Habel Hardman, Juanita Jones are ging to the Invitational meet in Pro-vo Pro-vo April 26-27. .Senior Sluff day was an eventful day for the Seniors of Pleasant Grove high school Thursday, April 25. They motored to Saratoga, had a swim; lunch was served; and a game of Softball was the activity of the afternoon. Miss Fenton, the class adviser, chaperoned the group. Girls Athletic Association officers were elected for the coming school year by the present members of the association. Names of the elected officials will not be disclosed until Girls' Day which is to be held May 3. On Girls' Day the halls and school rooms will be decorated with spring blossoms and the girls are to wear their best clothing. A special assembly will be brought from Provo, consisting of dancers from Provo high, after which a luncheon will be served with the boys as guests. In the evening a dance will be held during which the queen of Girls' Day will be announced. Vern Marrott, a returned missionary mission-ary from Germany and .the Eastern States, talked to the Seminary classes class-es Monday. Pleasant Grove track team is one of the best in years. This is the opinion of coach Giles and many followers. The fellows showed that they were definitely in the race for the 1940 Alpine district track championship cham-pionship when they took a close second sec-ond place in the three-way track meet at the B. Y. U. campus. They took first in the pole vault, Lloyd Walker being the champion; Carter was also a first place winner with 440 and 220 yard runs; Loader first in the half mile and the mile runs. Seconds were taken in the high jump, Walker; pole vault, Harris; half mile, Admas; shot put, Keetch. The beautiful new home of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Smith was the scene of a high school, faculty party on Saturday evening. Dinner was served at small tables, which were artistically centered with vases of garden flowers. After dinner the group listened to a program consisting con-sisting of a reading by Leah Jean Swenson; a vocal solo, Mrs. James Simmons; and an hour of violin and piano music from two B. Y. U. students. stu-dents. Present at the party were Iva Carlson, Ellen Walker, Laura Banner, Viola West; Messrs. and Mesdames Karl Banks, Irwin Jensen; E. R. West, James Simmons, A. J. Rogers, Joseph Day, H. S. Richards, Dan Peterson, Clarence Rollins, Earl Giles. The senior eugenics class and the adviser Lyean Johnson will visit the Utah State Training School, April 26. High school debate teams are preparing pre-paring ten-minute talks to be given in various wards in the very near future. The student council sponsored the high school program over K. O. V. O. Thursday evening. Beth Hooley, representing the Seniors talked on graduation; a vocal trio, Jeanne West, Lucille Newman, and Maurine Lim, representing the Juniors; Louise Walker and Julian West representing rep-resenting the Sophomores. Louise talked on socials and Julian on sports. The music department was well represented Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, at the music festival festi-val held in Provo. Pleasant Grove was represented by the ladies glee, male glee, and the band. Vocal solos were sung by Alice Anderson. Jeanne West. Warren Johnson, and Floyd Backus; Instrumental solo by Earl A. Beck and Kay Jacobs. Ratings were not given this year, but the school received constructive criticism. critici-sm. A number of critics stated that the glees were among the outstanding outstand-ing ones in the state. Much appreciation ap-preciation is given to Mr. Jensen, who was responsible for this very fine work. |
