Show GIRLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION COMPLETES SUCCESSFUL YEAR Under the able leadership of Miss Letha Walker, the Girl's Athletic Association has completed its first year of existence at the Pleasant Grove high school successfully. The organization began its activities early in the school year, with the following Officers at its head, Letha Walker, president; Ruth Walker, vice president; Dorothy Williamson, William-son, secretary and treasurer; Suzanne Suz-anne Grua, Recording secretary.. These officers with representatives from each class drew up a constitution consti-tution and designed an original insignia. in-signia. At an early date sports managers and class managers were appointed, who with the executive officsrs constitute an executive I board. This board has met monthly- to solve the problems and car- I ry on the business of the associat- I ion. The sports sponsored by the association as-sociation and the manager are: i Tennis, Leone Burch; Baseball, I J:an Smith; Volley Ball, Neva Ash;! Basketball, LaPreal Walker; Kick Ball, Reva Downs; Hiking, Ruth Armitstead; Dancing, Margaret Lee; Swimming, Nina White; Archery, Arch-ery, Laura Swenson; Track and Field, Josephine Farr. , The class managers are Dale Williams, Senior; Eunice Kooy-man, Kooy-man, Junior; Helen Harris, Sophomore. Sopho-more. The girls have enjoyed inter-class games in baseball, volley ball, basketball bas-ketball and kick ball. The seniors proved to be the victors in the games. The first girls' tsnnis tournament tourna-ment to be held at the local school was carried out under the direction of Leone Burch, senior tennis enthusiast. en-thusiast. Miss Naomi Driggs and Miss Helen Spencer, sophomfwes won first place honors in the tennis ten-nis meet. A swimming party was held at Saratorga during the second week , of school. A hike was also a feat- ure of the 'early fall activities. During the winter months dancing danc-ing classes were held before school . hours at the gym. ' I The G. A. A. Jamboree was the first social function of the year. All senior high school girls participated partici-pated in the fun and gayety of the occasion. Two matinee dances .have been successfully carried out for G. A. A. members and their partners. , I Annual girls Day was held Dec. 24th, the activities of the day being be-ing carried out under the direction of the G. A. A. At the monthly meetings, the; girls have had the opportunity of hearing a number of splendid talks given by such professional people as Miss Wilma Jeppson, Mrs. Glad-, ys Nislson, and Dr. G. Y. Anderson. Ander-son. The association award pins to ten senior girls who have merited the highest number of points in participation in G. A. A. activities for the year are Letha ' Walker, Ruth Walker, Jean Smith, LaPreal Walkor, Neva Ash, Ruth Armitstead, Armit-stead, Leone Burch, Dale Williamson, William-son, Florence Mayhew and Rhea Halliday. n |
