Show "Treasure Island" Romantic Film With Wallace Beery & Jackie Coopei The powerful heart appeal of this combination of man and boy that stirred millions with "The Champ': and recently "The Bowery," has never nev-er been presented with more dramatic drama-tic intensity than in the pirate story. To bring this most widely read of all adventure stories to the screen Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has assembled assem-bled one of the most notable casts of the year for supporting roles with Berry and Cooper. Lionel Barrymore is ideal as the blustering and bullying old Bills Bones, who finally dies of heart failure fail-ure when given the "black spot" by the pirates. His makeup is especially especial-ly interesting and is one of the most startling he has ever attempted. Lewis Stone a Captain Captain Smollett, who commands the ship Hispaniola on the treasure treas-ure cruise, is played with conviction convic-tion by Lewis Stone, who is himsell a captain of a fine sailing yacht in Pacific waters. Otto Kruger's forceful force-ful personality adds strength to the character of Dr. Livesey, who provides pro-vides medical attention for the expedition. ex-pedition. The whimsical and half mad Ben Gunn, who finds the treasure while marooned on the island, is played with hilarious comedy touches by Charles "Chic" Sale; Nigel Bruce adds English bluster and vigor to the role of Squire Trelawney; tiny Cora Sue Collins provides youthful and charming romantic interest foi Jackie Cooper in early sequences. Dozens of well known character players also distinguish themselves in the cast, including William V. Mong, Charles McNaughton, Douglas Doug-las Dumbrille, Edmund Breese, Olin Howland, Charles Irwin, Edward Pawley, Richard Powell arid James Burke.
