Show Success Attained By Firemen In Ed. Program The opening of the educational program of the American Fork firemen fire-men went over in a big way Thursday Thurs-day night, October 25th. There were over On-ee hundred visitors from out of the city present, representing the city officials and fire depart-Iments depart-Iments of most of the cities in Utah and Salt La'ie counties. Fire Chief I. L. Pratt was in charge of the program. Mayor William S. Storrs welcomed the visitors and all in attendance and Chief Kemp of Pleasant Grove resixmded. Speeches were made by a number of the mayors and visiting fire officials. Musical numbers were rendered by Howard Paxman on the piie organ. Miss Mildred Chipman who sang and Karl Bennett and Howard Nelson who played banjo numbers. A motion picture was shown depicting de-picting the right and wrong method of extinguishing fires, the necessity of constant drill, etc. Captain J. K. Plercey of Salt Lake gave a splendid lecture on fire prevention in the home. Following the program all were invited into the amusement" hall where dancing was enjoyed. Among the vLsitors were Captain Piercey and Lieutenant Harris A. Anderson, Fireman Melvin Hatch, assistant to Capt. Plercey; Sam Waugh, special agent or the board of fire underwriters; J. Coombs, In charge of the first aid work of the bureau of mines; D. J. Parker, engineer engi-neer of the bureau of miner;; Solomon Solo-mon Angel, vice-president of Veteran Veter-an Volunteer Firemen; Mrs. Ancel, president of the ladles auxiliary; Mayor RiminKton and Councilman Rimincton of Mldvale; Councilman Isumnicht of Bingham; Mayor Ismont, Provo; Commissioner J. W. Gillman; Councilman Clifr ClarK, Pleasant Grove; Councilman Johnson, John-son, Lehi. Representing the State Firemen's Association there were the past president, Clyde Canning, Mldvale; secretary, Jack Creedon, Bingham; treasurer, Cliarles A. Canning, Mid-vale; Mid-vale; Trustee Piercey; Chaplain, L L. Pratt; Sargeant at-arms. Glen Chadwlck, American Fork; state organizer, or-ganizer, Frank Hardy of Heber. Fire Chief Smith of Murray; Chief Clay and Chief Smith of Salt Lake county departments 1 and 2; Chief Creedon, Bingham; Chief Canning, Mldvale; Chief Tom Powers, Lehi; Chief Sy Kemp, Pleasant Grove; Chief Scott, Provo; Chief Hughea, Sandy; were also present. |
