Show Local Man Awarded Life Saving Medal The Edison Electric Institute Jnedal was awarded to Chariei Chamberlain Wednesday night at the Community church in Provo. He and Sharp C. Gillespie, both Utah Power & Light employes, received re-ceived this honor for having saved the life of Fred J. Richans, a truck driver, after he was knocked un-oonscious un-oonscious from electrical shock last year. Richans had grasped hold of a neutral wire in the work of repairing repair-ing the line over the snowslide and was rendered unconscious. Chamberlain Cham-berlain and Gillespie, whp had been instructed in first aid by the power company, applied the prone pressure method of resuscitation, and after several minutes managed to revive Richans enough so that he could be removed to the hospital. The medal presented to these men is of historic value in that it has in its composition, copper taken from the original mains laid down in New York by Thomas Alva Eddison in 1881 as part of the first underground electric distribution system in the world. o |
