Franke, appointed by the Secretary of the Interior as Superintendent of Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks and associated associ-ated National Monuments, including Timpanogos Cave, recently arrived to assume the duties of his new position. Before leaving to attend a conference of National Park Service Ser-vice executives at Washington, D. C, Superintendent Franke spent several days studying the problems of the areas under his jurisdiction. Superintendent Franke entered the National Park Service as a ranger-naturalist in 1928 at Mesa Verde National Park, where he continued his service, holding appointments as Park Nuturalist and Assistant Superintendent, Sup-erintendent, until his latest promotion. promo-tion. In 1921 Superintendent Franke received a bachelor of science degree de-gree from Colorado State College, where he continued with graduate work for a time. He later attended the University of Iowa, where he received re-ceived his master of science degree in 1929. After graduation, he held the position of Principal of the Mancos high school and later of Superintendent of Schools in Man-cos, Man-cos, Colorado. During the World War, Superintendent Superin-tendent Franke served with the 27th Division. He has been active in American Legion affairs, being a |
