I j Bishop Charles Wright and family j of Salt Lake, motored to American Fork Sunday and had dinner with Bishop Wright's sister, Mrs. Frank; Bush and family. ' Mrs. Moral D. Steele entertained Wednesday afternoon. Sewing and I social chat were enjoyed after which a dainty lunch was served I at three small tables, centered by baskets of sweet peas. The guests were Mesdames Allie Crookston, Nell Moffett, Mae Elsmore, Rose Hansen, Lei Chipman, Mary Pett and Ann Barratt. Catherine and Foster Nicholes, children of Mrs.' Olive Nicholes who is in Los Angeles, arrived in American Amer-ican Fork ta remain lindefjinitely with their grandmother, Mrs. Emma Em-ma Foster. The apartment in which the Nicholes' were residing was damaged by the earthquake and they were forced to seek refuge in temporary quarters such as tents. A St. Patrick's party was given Thursday evening of last week by Wfjc. and Mrs. Frank Humphries. The" guests enjoyed themselves in playing games, the first prize, a dozen green carnations, was won by Mrs. Frank Bush, and the consolation consol-ation favors were awarded to Vern Walker and Frank Bush. A dainty lunch in which the St. Patricks color predominated, was served. Those bidden were Messrs. and Mesdames Ray Ellison, G. A. Anderson, An-derson, Frank Bush, Vern Walker and Elwyn Wride. : rt . Mr. White is one of the Salt Lake fire department depart-ment veterans. Mr. and Mrs. John Grant stopped stop-ped in American Fork enroute to Salt Lake from Levan last Friday and visited Mr. Grant's mother, Mrs. Rose II. Grant. They also stopped in Monday on their way home. Mrs. Herbert Street has been very 111 during the past ten clays. She suffered a stroke on the right side Tuesday morning of last week from which she is making unsually good recovery. Bishop and Mrs. David A. Johnston, Mrs. Wm. Johnston and Miss Nellie Johnston of Hooper have spent several days here with their sister. "I Mrs. G. E. Graff and new son left the hospital Monday for home. Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Davis have moved into the home formerly occupied oc-cupied by Thomas Simms on west Main Street. I Mr. and Mrs. Axel Blqomquisl spent Wednesday in the capitol city visiting with relatives and friends. Mrs. Annie Holman has returned to her home in Pleasant Grove for a short time. Mrs. Holman has spent the winter here with her daughter, Mrs. Ora Chipman. The Bee Orchis club ladies were entertained by Mrs. Warren Anderson Ander-son at her home yesterday afternoon. after-noon. Needle work and social chat were enjoyed after which a delicious delic-ious lunch was served. St. Patrick's Pat-rick's motifs were used in the decorative dec-orative scheme. There were eighteen eigh-teen present including Mrs. Mabel Nelson and Mrs. Lloyd B. Adam-son, Adam-son, special guests. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Grant, Ray Shelley and Mrs. Owen Humphries Hum-phries attended a banquet and dancing party given in Salt Lake last Saturday night in honor of John H.i Russell, manager of the Salt Lake district of the Met. Life Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Firmage and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Firmage Fir-mage and Miss Agnes Firmage and Mrs. James Chipman, who have been spending the winter in Call-' fornia, have returned to American Fork. They were all residing in Long Beach and were in the midst of all the earthquake excitement. None sustained any injury. Miss Leona Yancey was hostess at a St. Patrick's party Thursday night, March 16th, at her home. "Spoof" was played, the prize being be-ing won by Miss Ardean Olsen and Miss Vira Bennett. A tasty lunch was served late in the evening to Miteses Hazel 0obbley, Loraine Stewart, Ardean Olsen, Berniece Chipman, Genieve Andreason, Vira Bennett, Thelma Larson and Mel-ba Mel-ba Barratt. Ins. Co., the occasion being his birthday. Messrs, Grant and Shel- ley and Mrs. Humphries also furnished furn-ished musical entertainment. The Sunday School officers and teachers entertained Friday night in honor of H. E. McNiel and Dar-rel Dar-rel Proctor, retiring members of the Fourth ward Sunday School superintendency. The party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. McNiel, with thirty present. Games were enjoyed and a tasty lunch served. The Bishopric and their wives were among the guests'. The first Junior Girls M. I. A. festival was held in the stake tabernacle tab-ernacle Tuesday evening and was such a splendid success that it will be made a yearly event in this organization. or-ganization. Mrs. Delbert Chipman, in charge of the R. F. C. work here, with three of her assistants, Mrs. Edna Robinson, Mrs. Laura Beck and j Mrs. Nell Karren, attended a meeting meet-ing of R. F. C. social workers held i in Provo last Saturday. The meeting meet-ing was addressed by Mrs. Amy , Brown Lyman of Salt Lake City. Mrs. Byron Crookston spent last week in Kenil worth with her daugh-. ter, Miss Lenore Crookston, a teacher in the high school there. Friday. Miss Crookston and Ted Burton brought Mrs. Crookston home and they remained to spend the week-end, returning to Kenil-worth Kenil-worth Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. L. Stanford Briggs were the recipients of a pleasant surprise last Thursday evening when ten friends dropped in to spend the evening. Social chat and games were enjoyed by all followed by a tasty picnic lunch provided by the surprisers. Those in the party were Messrs. and Mesdames Glen Sykes, David S. Taylor, V. F. Houston, Mark Coddington and E. H. Devey. J. P. Christensen is improving rapidly from an attack of pneumonia pneumon-ia and is able to be up and around now. He was made very happy last week by receiving a phone . call from a son in Nebraska. Another son, Julius Christensen and a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Brown were present at the time the call came and they all exchanged greetings with their Nebraska relatives whom they haven't seen for a number of years. Mrs. Leslie Smith entertained at a birthday party in honor of her daughter Elaine's thirteenth birthday birth-day Friday night, March 17th. Those present besides the guest of honor were the Misses Kathryn Holindrake, Ruby Harrington, Maxine Taylor, Doi-othy Greenwood, Jeanne Nicholes, Nich-oles, Sarah Barratt, Virginia Shelley, Donna Lou Davis. Maxine Robinson, Helen Tuttle and Masters Wayne C. Booth, William West, Merlin Mc-Grew, Mc-Grew, Dale Peters, Keith Miller, Op-ant Hicks, Earl Kelly, Frank Parker, Max Searle, Howard Beck, Harland Russon, Bernell Smith and Wendell Smith. Progressive Irish and other games were played. Miss Ruby Harrington winning the prize. A delicious luncheon was served later lat-er in the evening St. Patrick colors were effectively used in the menu. the four wards met conjointly in puftting the festival over. There were present besides the girls, their mothers, stake Y. L. M. I. A. officers offi-cers and ward Y. L. M. I. A. officers, offi-cers, numbering about sixty in all. The four stages of a girl's life, Youth, Motherhood and Age were dramatized by the wards in original origin-al stunts. A short program was also given and refreshments were served by the girls. Mrs. M. H. In-gersoll In-gersoll of the stake board and Mrs. Mabel McNiel of the Fourth ward M. I. A. were in charge. Honoring Roy Greenwood, who recently was released from the of-i of-i fice as superintendent of the First jward Y. M. M. I. A., a party was i given by the officers and teachers of the M. I. A. in the ward chapel Thursday night of last week. The time was spent in games of various kinds and a short program was enjoyed en-joyed in which expressions of appreciation ap-preciation for Mr. Greenwood's labors lab-ors from stake and ward workers were made. The room was tastefully taste-fully decorated in St. Patrick's mot-I mot-I ifs for the occasion. During the evening Mr. Greenwood was presented pre-sented with a handsome leather bill fold and key container, compliment com-pliment of his co-workers. Delicious Delic-ious refreshments were served. There were fifty-five present, in- eluding officers of the stake M. I. A. and the members of the bishopric. bishop-ric. A number of the American Fork friends of Miss Bessie Collins of Provo attended her trousseau tea jheld at the Collins residence Sun-:day Sun-:day afternoon. Miss Naomi Halli-day Halli-day and Miss Ann Clayson with Miss Mary Clarke of Provo, all members of the Fidelis Social Unit of the B. Y. U., provided musical entertainment during the afternoon. Mrs. La Ree Van Wagoner presided j at the tea table. Among those from here attending were Mrs. W. R. Halliday, Mrs. Florence Dunyon, ; Mrs. La Ree Van Wagoner, Mrs. ' Mabel Nelson. Mrs. Lillian C. Miss Collins Col-lins leaves this week for Washington Washing-ton and on April 6th will be married mar-ried there. |
