Coach Jon Hoover is known as one of the best high school coaches in Utah. Recently, Vance Law, Chicago Cubs 3rd baseman, and Coach Bobby Knolls, Brigham Young University Baseball, applauded Coach Hoover for his tremendous knowledge of the game and for his excellent program. Youngsters can learn a lot by watching the Vikings "play ball." Region 8 is known for tough competition in baseball. Each game will prove to be exciting. Eighth grade team wins consolation mis years eigntn graae basketball team had an excellent season. The boys practiced before school and competed in the Orem Bantam League. They played against teams from Orem, Provo and Spanish Fork. The team finished high in the league standings and took the consolation cnampionsnip Dy defeating Timpview in the year-en- d tournament. The boys worked hard and im-proved greatly. Coaches are Roger Cornell and Paul Schoonover. Vikings strike out Orem for win, lose to A.F. By JACK HILL Pleasant Grove rolled over Orem 18-- 8 in a non-leagu- e baseball game Friday. Playing on the Orem field, the Tigers took a 3-- 0 first inning lead, extended the lead to 5-- 2 before the Vikes exploded for 9 runs in the third inning and never lookedback. Every Viking but one had at least one base hit in the game with Eric Johnson going 3 for 5 and driving in a pair of runs and Gene Clements driving in three runs on two hits. Craig Veenker was called on to pinch hit in the top of the seventh and came through with a two run single as the Vikes scored 8 runs in their final at-ba- t. Darren Lloyd was the winning pitcher in addition to driving in a run and scoring two. Thursday at American Fork, the Vikes took an early lead but couldn't hold it as the Cavemen camebacktowin 1 Kelley drove in three runs for PG with Clement adding two. The Vikes will host Uintah Fri-day in a Region 8 game at 3 p.m. ! The junior varsity will play at 5 p.m. The weatherman has prom-ised the best weather so far this spring for the Uintah game. Next week PG plays at Provo on Tuesday and hosts Timpview on Friday, April 14. North Valley Track Club plans registration Registration for the North Valley ' Track Club will be held Wednesday, April 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the American Fork High School boys gym. The club is for boys and girls ages 8 through 18 and includes help and instruction for the serious runner, as well as for those who run for recreation and enjoyment. Con-ditioning and track skills are also taught by the coaching staff. Coaches are Rod Jorgensen, head coach, George Ricks, Art Taylor and Jim Jex. The registration fee is $24 per person or $48 per family (up to three members). The fee includes a tee shirt. Uniforms and shoes are extra. At the April 12 registration, there will be a table available for all those who would like to sell or trade uniforms or shoes. New uniforms can also be ordered at that time. The North Valley Track Club is a member of the TAC Jr. Olympics and has local, state, regional and national competitions. There will be local meets held throughout the month of June, with the state meet held at East High School in Salt ; Lake City on June 30 and July 1.
