Scout earns SAR Eagle trophy The Utah Society of the Sons of the American Revolution has awarded its 1987-88 bronze Eagle trophy to Varsity Scout Daniel E. Witte of Cedar- Hills in the Tim-panogos Tim-panogos District of the Utah National Parks Council. The annual award recognizes superior leadership and service by a Utah Scout, who attained the Eagle rank 'in the 12 months preceding Aug. 31, said Dr. Stephen Stanford, chairman of the selection committee. In addition, an outstanding new Eagle in each of Utah's four Boy Scout councils is awarded a bronze Good Citizenship medal by the local SAR chapter. A son of William R. and Mary Louise Witte of Cedar Hills, Daniel has served as a Cub Scout den chief, Boy Scout patrol leader and senior patrol leader, and Varsity Scout squad leader. He has also participated par-ticipated in numerous Scouting activities, including summer camps, high mountain adventure trips, Order of the Arrow achievement, and merit badge powwows. pow-wows. , At the time of his earning the Eagle rank at age 14, he had earned the total of 112 Scout merit badges (out of 119 maximum) and four palms. He has submitted to the Boy Scouts national headquarters a proposal for the establishment of a new merit badge in karate, a skill in which he excels. In his application for the SAR award, Scout Witte submitted a four-generation ancestor chart and wrote an essay on Major General Nathaniel Greene, who serve the patriot cause during the American Revolution and was known as the "fighting Quaker." |
