Show City Council looks at new library plans , Pleasant Grove City Council looked at plans for the proposed new city library Tuesday night during the regular council meeting. The architect presented plans for a building which would incorporate designs from the past with those of the present. There had earlier been a discussion about keeping the present j library, and adding on to the structure using soft rock from the 1 Wade Springs area. The council had indicated that it would probably be better to build a new library rather than add on to the present library. The council suggested that the architect alter the new plans where necessary to make it look more modern as that would be less costly than trying to duplicate the older style. The council has proposed building the new library north of the City Hall on the old junior high school track property. The city owns that piece of property. The council has also suggested that the old City Hall on Main Street be razed and the site be planted with grass, trees and flowers where -residents can slop by for a rest and to visit. It would also provide a nice walkway back to the new library. The architect was expected to present the suggested changes at the Public Works Committee meeting Slated for this week. In other action, the council agreed ivith a suggestion from Councilman Dale Warburton to send a letter of appreciation to Gary Lewis. Lehi -ity Recorder, for his help in working out the Tri-City Golf Course problems. Gary has been serving as chair- 0 man of the Golf Course Committee and has been instrumental in the success the committee has had in making the necessary changes. Mayor David Holdaway introduced in-troduced Mary West as the new chairperson for the Pleasant Grove Community Fair. She reported on the progress of the organization of the committee. Dora Faux will be her co-chairperson. The fair is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5. The theme of the fair this year will be based on the commemoration com-memoration of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. During the coming months, the Community Fair Committee will be holding special contests and activities ac-tivities relating to the constitution. The council approved the adoption of the Utah Criminal Code as part of the Pleasant Grove City Code. The council also adopted as the law of the city the Utah Controlled Substance Act. Mayor Holdaway asked the city council members for suggestions for new projects that could be accomplished ac-complished with Community Development Block Grant Funds. He said that last year $140,000 was set aside in a pool for Wasatch, Summit and Utah Counties to use in a loan program with the understanding un-derstanding that Wasatch County had first use of the funds. The mayor emphasized that suggested projects must meet the strict criteria of assisting the financially distressed people or there was no hope of approval. The mayor also read a letter from Roger Roper, chairman of the Historic Preservation Committee for the community. The letter suggested that a couple of additional members be added to his committee. com-mittee. Roper said that Diane Brereton and Richard Hansen have been assisting the committee and would be willing to accept appointment ap-pointment as official committee members. The city council reappointed Roper as chairman of the committee, com-mittee, with members of the committee, com-mittee, Drucilla Smith, Regula Holdaway, Maymetta Johnson, Norman Barton, Diane Brereton and Richard Hansen. The council expressed appreciation ap-preciation for the work done by the committee in the past and recognized the service rendered to the community. Members of the city council approved ap-proved the vacation of the Fort Acres Subdivision upon the request of WilliamS. West. West noted that the property had been sold to new owners and they were not prepared to move ahead with plans for the development at this time. By vacating the subdivision, it will revert to metes and bounds descriptions. Streets and some of the lots have been deeded to the city and will have to be returned. A bond which had been posted will also have to be returned. Kenny Adamson appreared before the city council regarding the Golf Course By-Law changes and the bill Pleasant Grove City has received for wages and capital improvements at the Golf Course. He explained that the bill for wages was something that their auditors claim had been overlooked in previous years and did not relate to the current, or just ended, year. See City Council on page 2 Continued from front page PL Grove City Council The bill was for $2,100. Adamson, Pleasant Grove representative to the Golf Course Committee, suggested that the clause in the new by-laws prohibiting fulltime city employees from serving on the committee be deleted when the council takes action on the subject. The committee wants to avoid any possibility of it being interpreted as any kind of criticism of Gary Lewis, who has been serving as chairman of the Golf Course Committee and also as the Lehi City Recorder. Mayor Holdaway told Adamson that the council had agreed earlier in the meeting to send a letter to the committee and Lewis which offers such assurance. The mayor said he preferred to talk to the other mayors before the council took action on the clause in question. Mayor Holdaway advised the council that a Memorandum of Understanding had been drawn wherein the Bank of American Fork desired to sell the Manila Meadows subdivision to Walton Farmer. Since this subdivision had been approved by the county prior to its annexation, the buyer was seeking assurance that more restrictive Pleasant Grove City Requirements will not be assessed against the properties. They were particularly concerned about city requirements for sidewalks. Streets and curbs are already installed. The council approved the Memorandum and declared that the new developers would only be required to meet the county standards. stan-dards. It was pointed out that the term of Ray Pollman on the Planning Commission expires on Jan. 15. A request was made for his reappointment reap-pointment to a four-year term. The council approved this action. |
