Following Saturday's polay, the veteran Spirits, Celtics, Pacers and Knicks look like the teams to battle it out for first place. However, there are enough other teams that show promise. All. in all, it appears like a very interesting season ahead for the Jr. Jazz seventh and eighth grade league, as many of the games were close and hard fought through three quarters with big fourth quarter scoring sprees accounting for most of the victories. KNICKS 39 BUCKS 25 The Knicks, led by Eric Johnsen's 12 and Matthew Johnsons 10, six of which were scored in the big fourth quarter, were enough to assure the Knicks a victory after leading only 23 to 22 at the third quarter, were enough to assure the Knicks a . Justin Jensen with 7 points and John Tolman with 6 points led the Bucks as they came close to up-setting the favorite Knicks. COUGARS 28 ROCKETS 21 The Cougars, with balanced team scoring, led by Raymond Overson and Shawn, Stevens with 8 and 7 points respectively, led Coach John Steven's charges to their initial victory of the new season. Coach David Haynie's team were down only 2 points at the end of the third quarter but fell behind during the fourth quarter, 9 to 4. Ryan Goulding led the Rockets with 11 big points. SUNS 29 76ERS19 The Suns, under new Coach Craig Hansen beat the young 76'er team under the direction of Gary Jackson, 29 to 19. Again the game was close all the way with only 3 points separating the teams at the half and three quarter break, only to see the Sun's Nathan Jones and Jason Thaxton lead the 4th quarter scoring, ending the game with 10 and 8 points respectively. The young 76'ers had 8 players in the scoring column. CELTICS 39 LAKERS 25 The Celtics, one of the n favorites, opened the season strong with a 39-2- 5 victory over a young Laker team. They started fast with Derek Robinson and Shane Smith leading the way with 11 and 8 points respectively. The Lakers led by Brad Olsen's 9 points played even ball the second half for Coach Mike Holley's team. PACERS 44 JAZZ 31 In the highest scoring game of the week, the Pacers again established themselves as the team to beat. Dan Schoonover with 15 and Travis Ewell with 8 points led the Pacer attak. Cole Kelly and Jared Hunt-zing-with 15 and 8 points respectively led a very good Jazz team.
