Show Openings announced for Utah Circuit Court judge positions Gordon R. Hall, Chief Justice of the Utah Supreme Court, recently announced the opening of the application ap-plication period for two judicial, vacancies, one in the tenth circuit court and one in the fifth circuit court. Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m., October Oc-tober 17, 1986, at the Office of the Court Administrator, 500 E. 230 South, Suite 300, Salt Lake City, Utah 84102. Fifth Circuit Court. .The vacancy in the Fifth Circuit Court, which includes Salt Lake and Summit Counties, was created by the appointment ap-pointment of Judge Frank G. Noel to fill a vacancy in the Third District Court. Tenth Circuit Court: The vacancy in the Tenth Circuit Court was created by the appointment of Judge Louis Tervort to the newly established judgeship in the Fourth District Juvenile Court. The Tenth Circuit includes Sanpete, Sevier, Wayne, Piute, Garfield and Kane Counties. Applicants must be 25 years of age or older, U.S. citizens, Utah residents for three years prior to selection and admitted to practice law in Utah. In addition, judges must be willing to reside within the geographic jurisdiction of the court. Article VIII of the Utah Constitution Con-stitution and state law provides that individual nominating commissions for both courts shall submit to the Governor three nominees for each vacancy within 45 days of its first meeting. The Governor must make his selection within 30 days of receipt of the names and the Senate must confirm or reject the Governor's selection within 30 days. The judiciary has adopted procedural guidelines for nominating commissions, copies of which may be obtained from Susan Hanson by calling (801) 533-6371. The nominating commissions are chaired by the Chief Justice and are composed of two members appointed ap-pointed by the state bar and four non-lawyers appointed by the Governor. At the first m eeting of the nominating commission, the portion of the agenda dedicated to review of meeting procedures, time schedules and review of written public comkment is open to the public. Those individuals wishihg to provide written public comments on the challenges facing Utah's courts in general or the particular court in which the vacancy exists must submit written testimony no later than October 17, 1986, to the Office of the Court Administrator, Attn: Judicial Nominating Commission for (name of court). No comments on present or past sitting judges or current applicants for judicial positions will be considered.
