Shoppers are ready for the annual PG & Lindon Sidewalk Sale scheduled for this weekend. Hearty western dish suggested for crowd Bacon and Beans (Recipe from Bernice Lish, serves 12-2- 0 people) 1 lb. bacon (chopped in 1" pieces 2 cups onions 2 cans pinto beans - drained 2 cans red kidney beans - drained and reserve liquid 2 cans lima beans - drained and reserve liquid 2 stalks of celery - chopped 3 green peppers - chopped 2 cans whole kernel corn - drained 1 large can tomatoes (whole) quarter Vi cup honey 3 T cider vinegar 2 tsp. each - ground cumin, dry mustard, oregano salt and pepper to taste M cup instant potatoes Cook bacon until crisp, remove from pan. Cook onions in bacon drippings until limp, remove excess fat. To the cooked onions add spices, honey, vinegar and 1 cup of reserved bean liquid. Blend so spices are well mixed. Add all other ingredients, cover and bake at 350 degrees for two hours. Add instant potatoes to 1 cup reserved bean liquid. Stir well. This will thicken slightly. You may need more or less thickening as pleases your taste. Eat and enjoy! PUBLIC NOTICES Public Notice Advertising Protects Your Right to Know Community block grant notice given The State of Utah, Department of Com-munity and Economic Development, an-nounces two public hearings concerning the Community Develop-ment Block Grant program for 1986-8- The hearings will be held to explain the program and receive public comment regarding a draft amendment to the Final Statement which covers the 1986-8- 7 funding cycle. The Final Statement provides com-prehensive guidance to the operation and ad-ministration of the Community Develop-ment Block Grant program which is designed to assist small communities (under 50,000 population) and non-urba- n counties in meeting a variety of prioritized community development needs. For the current year, the Community Development Block Grant Program initially allocated $3,794,000 to eligible grantees. An additional amount approximating $780,000 is to be made available for allocation through - the seven regional associations' of governments. The pubic is invited to attend either of the two official hearings which will be held as listed below: Thursday, Aug. 14, 1986, 7 p.m. First Floor Auditorium, State Capitol Office Building, Salt Lake City, Utah. Vets rep. to be in Provo A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in the Provo area Monday, Aug. 4, to help veterans, and their dependants understand and apply for VA benefits. The officer will also help prepare and document aplications for compensation, pension, hospitalization, education and other benefits. This is offered as a free ' service to all Veterans . The officer will work out of the Provo Vet's Center from 9 to 10 a.m. and the-Jo- Service Center from 10 to 11 a.m. Exchange Club of Timpanogos being organized for men, women of area A new Exchange Club is being formed which will be called The Exchange Club of Timpanogos. It will encompass the areas1 of American Fork, Lehi, Alpine, Pleasant Grove and related com-munities. The Exchange Club can accept both men and women as members. Exchange is the largest service club which purposely limits its activity to within the boundaries of the U.S. It does this so that clubs can more clearly strive to preserve and perpetuate the American way of life. Some of the community projects involve crime prevention, youth of the month, freedom shrines, "One Nation Under God," fire prevention and child abuse prevention. Holman for details at 756-352- UVRMC to offer baby sitters class Utah Valley Regional Medical Center will offer a course on "Becoming a Super Sitter" on Friday, Aug. l, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Clark Auditorium. A special art demonstration will be given along with information for the Guild Art Show to be held in August at the museum. ; Nominations will be made for new officers for the 1986-8- 7 year. Volunteers needed to work in forests Volunteer groups are needed on the Uinta national Forest to help with a variety of projects. Work would include seeding disturbed areas around campgrounds, cleanup along roadsides and in camping areas, rehabilitating streambanks, trail maintenance and constructing fences.
