Show Timpview knocks off Vikes in sophomore contest, 26-20 was smothered by the Viking defense but the 20-14 score swung the momentum back to the T-Birds. Defense dominated the third period, but the Thunderbirds again executed the hook and lateral play midway through the third period to tie the score. Henry and Darren Brown stormed through to block the point after kick and overtime appeared ap-peared in the making. However, with a fourth and 9 from the 35, Timpview tried a pass and despite Travis Thornton hanging on the Timpview quarterback, quar-terback, he got off a high wobbly pass that came down at the goaline. Green and two other PG defensive backs were waiting and batted the ball away only to see it drop into the hands of another Thunderbird receiver lying on the ground in the end zone. PG drove to the 40 where on fourth iown' with 1:19 to play, the Vikes came up short and Timpview was able to run out the clock. . The sophs play next on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Oct. 15, in Viking Stadium against Springville at 4 p.m. Timpview scored on the first play of the game, went for two and had an 8-0 lead after just 40 seconds, and then went on to beat the PG sophs 26-20 Thursday. Running out of the wishbone, Timpview's quarterback kept the ball and raced 65 yards on the Thunderbirds first play after the kickoff. Calmly, the Vikes received the kickoff and made a first down with Darren Henry and Chad Fraughton carrying the ball. On PG's third play, Henry passed 35 yards to Lynn Green and the Vikes went on to score with quarterback Russ VanDyke sneaking in from a yard out. Mike Hanks booted the point after to cut the Timpview lead to 8-7. 8-7. On their next possession, Van-Dyke Van-Dyke flipped a screen pass to Dave Shepherd and blocks from Mark Richards and Mike Smith gave Shepherd a lane to the end zone and a 13-8 lead. The point after was wide. Following a Shaun Kearns fumble recovery, the Vikes drove to another score with Henry going in from five yards out and PG went on top 20-8. With 47 seconds left in the half, Timpview executed the hook and lateral play to perfection and scored from 55 yards out. The two point try |
