Utah Pageant of the Arts concert to honor Bingham He built the large family home on the Pleasant Grove foothills with his own hands, laid the brick, framed the rooms, did the carpentry and completed a large patio and balcony, giving the house the air of a home in the French countryside. He established the Alpine Area Chamber Music Society about five years prior to his death, presenting their first performance of "The Messiah" as an instrumental production, since he had orchestra music only that season. Earlier this year his widow donated a large grand piano to the Pageant for their music programs. She had made a contribution of her husbands extensive collection of "Chamber Music" scores to the Society shortly after his death. A program of classical music will be conducted by Mr. Honey at the Dedicatory Concert, including Beethoven's Symphony no. 2, Rosamunde, by Franz Shubert, and Concerto Grosso, by George prominent area musician and teacher, founded the Alpine Area Chamber Music Society, now the Pageant Orchestra, about 10 years ago. Bingham, a versatile man, was born and raised on a largey dairy farm in Provo. His love of animals was equaled by his love for music. After attending Utah State University (then the State Agricultural College) he continued his studies at Weber College and graduated from BYU with degrees in music and history. To assist in financing his education, Bingham copied music for Florence Madsen, well known choral director and musical. After graduation he taught at Richfield, Utah and Fallon, Nevada; before returning to Provo, where he taught for most of his career. He established an orchestra school in which he taught. His major instrument was the cello, but he also played the guitar, French horn, bariton, oboe and violin and oboe. He taught all instruments, both in the schools and as a private music teacher. He also had a beautiful baritone voice, singing in operas, for funerals, and other occasions and was a choir leader most of his adult life. Frederic Handel. Featured this evening will be a trio, consisting of Mr. Honey, clarinet; Carla Haynie, piano; and David Bobo, cello. ,.. , Admission to the concert is free, but contributions toward restoration of the piano will be accepted. A bake sale will also follow the con-cert, sponsored by orchestra members, with proceeds also to go toward materials needed for the restoration of the piano.
