Show Final section of 1-15 in Central Utah nears completion gap in 1-15 and will provide continuous con-tinuous interestate from Utah's southern border north to Tremonton. Work on the section of 1-15 from Nephi to Scipio has been going on for many years and has required many separate construction projects. Following is an outline of its expected completion: A. North Nephi to South Nephi: This 6.3-mile section of interstate was completed and opened to traffic in the fall of 1984. B. South Nephi to Mills Junction: as mentioned earlier in this news release, bids have been opened for paving this 18.5-mile section, and includes structures, lighting and signing and is scheduled for completion com-pletion by July 1, 1986. C. Mills Junction to the Sevier River: Six miles of this 7.3-mile section are finished and open to traffic. The remaining 1.3 miles has been completed, however, it will not be opened to traffic until the Mills Junction to South Nephi section is completed. Sevier River to Scipio: This 13-mile section of 1-15 is under contract for paving and is expected to be completed and open to traffic by the fall of 1985. The completion of 1-15 from Nephi to Scipio in central Utah will soon be a reality. The Utah Department of Transportation opened bids today on the final project required to finish the incomplete stretch of freeway between Nephi and Scipio. The project involves paving the 18.5 mile section from Mills Junction to South Nephi and building structures at the Mills Junction Interchange area. Kasler Corporation of San Bernardino, Ber-nardino, California turned in the apparent low bid of $21,761,842 on the project. UDOT's official engineer's estimate was $20,744,995. Work is expected to begin in the near future on building the structures struc-tures for the Mills Junctions Interchange, In-terchange, a railroad crossing and two drainage culverts. A ten-inch layer of concrete pavement will provide a durable driving surface for motorists. All signing and lighting for the section of interstate is also included in this contract. Very little traffic interference is expected on this project as the interstate section is on a new alignment north and west of the existing road. Thi project is scheduled for completion by July 1, 1986 and when done will close the |
