Show Lindon students fingerprinted By CINDY LLOYD Lindon Elementary recently had members of the Pleasant Grove Police Department conduct a child identification program for the school. Jean Weeks, the safety person for the PTA at Lindon Elementary, organized the identification program for the school children, as well as pre-school children, with Lt. Tom Paul, Officer Mike Blackhurst and Officer Tom Prestwich. Flyers were sent home with school children to make parents aware of the date and inviting them to bring pre-schoolers in for identification iden-tification also. The children were fingerprinted on a form that also had important data for a description descrip-tion of the child, along with their address and phone number. Parents were given the option of keeping the records at home or on file with the police department or both. This form of identification has become popular with the increase in child crimes in the past few years. The hope is that this and other programs will serve as a deterrent against these crimes and also make child identification easier in case of an emergency. Mr. Maag, principal, feels that the turnout for this program was very encouraging. He also praised all the police officers involved and feels that good public relations between officers and the children are a positive result of the program. This program is offered to schools throughout Utah County. |
