Show Review - Thursday, April 14, 1983 - Page 11 Provo stunned by P.G. pleasant Grove stunned Provo Friday by rallying in the seventh inning to take an 11-1- 0 wild-scorin- g Region Seven baseball win. Behind by three runs to start their final at bat, the Vikes put together four hits and a walk without an out to post the victory. Shawn Story led off the do or die inning with a sharp double to left-cent-field. Sophomore Paul Bronson, who had homered in the second to give PG a 2-- 1 lead, followed Story with a double that went to the fence in right-cente- r, pinch hitter, Don Grothe, then fell behind in the count, 2-- before working Provo pitcher, Guy Golightly, for a base on balls. Tim Chambers, the Viking starting pitcher before Story took over in the fifth, then dropped a perfect base hit bunt to load the bases. Enter the hero, Charlie Baldridge. His hot bat was three for four in four earlier trips to the plate and with the count 2-- Baldridge lashed a double to the right field fence that cleared the bases. The fleetfooted Chambers raced home from first base with the winning run. Bronson and pinch runner, Jim Trinnaman, scored ahead of Baldridge to tie the game. When Chambers touched the plate with the winning run, the entire PG squad emptied the dugout and raced to second base to mob Baldridge. The free scoring contest started with a fluke home run by Provo's Jay Clark. Clark lofted a high fly ball that centerfielder, Shane Phillips, was under near the fence. On his last stride, Phillips started down the drop off and the ball bounced off his glove and over the fence for a home run. The Vikes came right back with Bronson's two run shot that also scored Phillips. Scott Walker tripled in Chambers and Baldridge in the fourth and two base hit in the sixth that scored Baldridge. For the Bulldogs, Kevin Santiago hit a two run homer in the fourth. Although PG struggled defen-sively for most of the game, one outstanding play came in the fifth inning, Pinch hitter, Glen Hatch, had walked for Provo and had moved to third on a Clarence Hofheins single. With one out, Greg Rhiner hit a fly ball to Bronson in right field. Bronson caught the ball and threw to Walker who quickly relayed the ball to Viking catcher, Clark Hill. For some reason, Hatch did not slide after tagging at third and Hill's tag was in time to end the Provo rally with a double play. In all PG had 15 hits to Provo's 9. Story was the winning pitcher for the Vikes in giving up just one hit and two runs in 2y3 innings of relief pitching. a i ' J '. i 7 f, i VK; "m&f wyfsg CHARLIE BALDRIDGE gets set to make throw to first after getting Provo's Clarence Hofheins on a force at second. When the Viking JV came to bat in the bottom of the first, Tracy Flinders walked, Scott Mosher singled and Mike Jensen walked to load the bases. Paul Bronson, the Viking pitcher, hit a 0 pitch over the fence for a grand slam home run to put PG on top to stay. The Vikings added five more runs in the first and eight in the second inning. Before the offensive show was over, the Vikes were 21-- 5 winners over visiting Provo. Bronson was the winning pitcher and had three hits and six runs batted in. Mosher scored four runs for PG. by Daryn Smith The Pleasant Grove Vikings played tough but fell to the Number two ranked Orem Tigers 6-- 0 last Friday. The Tigers, who played a tough passing offense used ball control and passing to wear down the Vikes. Both teams complained of the officiating of the game. The Officials wouldn't call any fouls and the game got out of control. The Vikings are tied for second place in Region 7 with Orem and Mt. View. The Vikes next home match is Tuesday against the Mt.
