Librarian Vera Dean Walker has scheduled read-a-thons, media center displays, a motivational talk on reading by Mr. Sucher from BYU a visit by a well-known author and poet, and a Wednesday puppet show for the younger students. Then on Friday those who have read 20 minutes a day or a set number of pages will get a chance to let the world know what they've read when they send up helium balloons containing their name, address, the school name and the name of their favorite book. If the balloons are sent up in bunches, there's a good chance they could even end up in another state, said Mrs. Walker. The PTA will be there to help send off the colorful airborne balls. Perhaps even a Gandalf, a Chewbaca, or an Alice will for one day become students at Lindon Elementary and will live even more vividly in the heart of some reader who has come to know a little more of a wonderful world through books. |
