Show Winter offers plants respite from pests ' Winter, freezing offers a reprieve from fighting diseases, insects and weeds that plague farms and gardens during the warm months. But Utah State University Extension Ex-tension specialists say don't expect the frost to rid your place of all these different pests. Frost kills garden plants, but not disease-causing organisms. Leaf and stem disease organisms that infected vegetables and ornamental plants will likely find a way to survive the winter in plant residue or soil. It will help if you burned or discarded plant material severly infected with disease organisms. Remember, however, that some soii-born disease-causing organisms "ill remain. Plan to cope with them next spring by planting resistant varieties where possible. Also use mp rotation. Move plants around rom one area to another to avoid dup of the disease-causing organisms. Certain plant viruses are destroyed when their host plants . but they can sometimes survive "winter annual weeds such as the mustards.
