Show Ranger District reports limited access to forests Uinta National Forest and Utah County officials worked to open as many of the flood-damaged Canyon roads and campgrounds as possible for pubtic use by last weekend. According to Uinta Forest Supervisor Don T. Nebeker, the following roads and campgrounds are now open: On Heber Ranger District, Mill Hollow, Lodgepole, Bryants Fork, and Aspen Grove Campground will be open for use. On Spanish Fork Ranger District, the road will be open to Diamond Fork and Palmyra Campgrounds, but because of road construction there may be a wait of up to 1 hour along the road. Hobble Creek will be open to Balsam Campground, and Payson Canyon will be open to Blackhawk Campground. On Pleasant Grove Ranger District, the road between Timpanogos Cave and Hanging Rock Picnic site is still closed because of flood damage. An opening date for this section of road has notieen set .r Timpanogos Cave is only accessible through the American Fork side of the canyon. Campgrounds in American Fork Canyon beyond Timpanogos Cave can only be reached from the Provo Canyon side. Hope Campground, accessible from the Squaw Peak Trail, will be open. Mr. Nebeker reminds that Cascade Springs is open to the public, but can only be reached through Midway. Pleasant Grove District Ranger - Harry Opfar cautions recreationists in the Timpanogos Scenic Area to be aware of extreme dangers which exist along the trails. There is heavy snowpack in the area, and swollen streams cross some of the trails. Melting snow underneath heavily snowpacked areas weakens the crust, and there is danger of falling through these unstable areas. Hikers need to stay on existing trails.
