Show r- . . - - . i , Wade Springs water . back in Monson system Water from the Wade Springs line was placed back in the Monson Water System about 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, according to Tony Brooks, Water Superintendent. Ite ten inch line from Wade Springs to the Monson Tank sprung bad leak on May 25, causing muddy water to enter the system. Residents on that line were without ater for several hours while the m was closed off, flushed and the a nks refilled. . Since that time the city arranged tor replacing the Wade Springs pipe WOrk has now been com" Pleted. Approximately 2,700 feet of pipe was replaced. With the Wade Springs line back into operation the city will not have to pump so much water into the tank and this will reduce the number of problems which can arise because of heating of the pump, Brooks said. The developer who installed the line in about 1975 used a thin wall or low head pipe which was meant for above ground use, not below ground, the water superintendent explained. The Wade Springs line is bringing in about 600 gallons of water a minute now. It had about 550 gallons a minute coming in before the pipe broke, Brooks noted. He is now investigating to see who is responsible for the line which broke on May 25 and the installation of the pipe that was used. The developer claims that the city approved the pipe, Mark Johnson, city recorder, stated. The line was replaced from the break at approximately 900 North and 900 East to the fence around Wade Springs. Johnson estimated the cost of replacement would be $20,000. When the line was hooked back up See Wade Springs on page 3 1 o Wade Springs t: (Continued from page 1) I, ? U small leaks were found in the " leel Pipe the line flows into, but L were clamped Friday. Brooks this indicates that that line needs to be replaced. In order to :; alleviate stress on the line it will be allowed to free flow into the Monson Tank without pressure building up in it. .... The city does not anticipate any problems with any of the city water system, Mr. Johnson stressed. He said that if a mudslide should come into the lines in Battlecreek Canyon it could take out the line. Brooks reported also that they are trying to repair the worst leaks throughout the city first, so if you have a comparably small leak, report it and then be patient until they can get to it. He said that some leaks are caused by settling of the soil from saturation, the lead joints of some pipes and the age of pipes. Johnson noted that tests on all the water systems show the water is just fine. Even when the Wade Springs pipe broke and the water was muddy, it still tested good as far as drinking was concerned, he added. The water never has needed to be boiled, he affirmed. |
