Show m5m j Vikes Upset Bruins 52-4-6 Mountain View's pressure earlier in the game. Robbins gathered in seven rebounds for the game. John Gleave paced the Bruins with 12 points. PG will play at Orem tomorrow. P.G. knocked off Mountain View 52-4- 6 Tuesday in a thrilling game for local fans. When Coach Keith Allred unveiled a zone early in the second period, the calm deliberate Bruins suddenly lost their shooting touch and ap-peared disorganized in their offensive attack. But it was a great performance by Justin Bone at both ends of the floor that caused the downfall of the team that last week edged Provo. Bone scored 21 points on some nifty inside fakes and inside moves while on the defensive end he swept the boards for 20 rebounds. The Vikes were patient on offense, swinging the ball from one side of the floor to the other and then getting it inside. With the ball in deep, Bone was unstopable and Mountain View tried four different players in an effort to stop the PG senior. When the Bruins did jam up the middle, Kevin Allridge and Bryce Walker hit from long range to keep the attack going. Mountain View held a slender one point advantage to start the final period after the score was tied at halftime. PG shot well down the stretch and the new zone cut deeply into Mountain View's shooting percentage. In the first meeting, the Bruins had blistered the nets at a 60 percent rate. With three minutes to play, Coach Joel Gardner sent his team into a half court trap that PG quickly centered with a four corner passing game that kept the Bruins moving, but they couldn't come up with the ball. Craig Swapp and Robbins hit free throws in the final minute to keep the Vikes on top. Robbins also did a good job of getting the ball up court against . jr xrip 1 .... Timpview again jumped on top by fouur on a basket by Greg Nord and two Hill free throws. Allridge hit a pair from the line for the Vikes to pull within two, 42-4- 4, but PG's shot with four seconds to play missed and Timpview's Jack Saldutte was fouled on the rebound. Richard Mills had a basket and came up with two key steals to help keep the Vikings in the game. PG travels to Orem tomorrow. Strange, yet exciting is the way to scribe Friday's Region Six game at mpview. The Thunderbirds won in uble overtime, 45-4- 2 over visiting ""easant Grove. Strange because with three minutes w play in regulation, neither team "",d been whistled with a second half al and it was well into the second 5ertime before a team got into the e and one free throw situation. Pleasant Grove led by two points at 31 b end of the first and second arters while Timpview was up by o as the third period closed, n the final eight minutes, six points are scored. Kevin Allridge tied the ' l,e with 1:25 to go and after I pview missed with 50 seconds to iy, the Thunderbirds kept fouling J to prevent a good shot. It was und strategy since all the Vikes Kild get is the ball out of bounds. PG lintained possession and with five conds left, Justin Bone put up a 10 rt baseline jumper that appeared to in twice, but at the buzzer it fell N rmlessly to the floor. )avid Hill gave Timpview a quick ertime lead that held up until Scott Itobins rebounded a missed Viking J)t and put it in at the buzzer to send - Monte Clark Top Scorer In City league Monte Clark is the scoring leader at the present time and the Kinsmen still hold down first place in the city's men's basketball league, it was reported by Cliff Hales, statistician. In the meet hosted by PG, Aaron Sherod, Kelly Sanderson, Paul Phelon and David Reeve were crowned champions in their weights. Sherod took a 6--2 decision from Timpview's Robert Clegg in the 115 pound division. At 122 pounds, Sanderson, just a sophomore, won 7-- 3 over Orem's Wade Whiting. Tean Paul Phelon turned an expected close final match in the 148-pou- division into an 18-- 4 rout of Provo's Jordan Kimball. In the match that gave PG the team 'title; heavyweight Reeve won"by " forfeit over Mountain View's James Faulkner. The Bruin er slipped during the introductions and his right knee. When it came time for the heavyweight match, Faulkner was unable to go and with PG trailing Timpview by one point, the six points for first place gave PG the team title. In January, Reeve had pinned Faulkner in the dual meet but before that, Faulkner had beaten Reeve three straight times. The question became academic when the referee raised Reeve's hand and PG was the team champions. Other Vikes who placed in the tournament were sophomore, Coy Hall, second at 101 and Dan Biggs, second at 188. Calvin Ostler took third with a 7-- 1 decision over Provo's Carl Johnson and Curtis Warnick was fourth at 135. The meet continues Friday with the finals scheduled for Saturday night. Uintah, Box Elder and Tooele are given the best chance for the State crown.
