PGHS Future Farmers Of America Named i Lee Anderson and I Kerry Hoglund of the j1 PGHS Chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) have been awarded the State Farmer Degree. To receive the State Farmer Degree, each of these boys were required to have a supervised agricultural project, earning and productively investing at least $500. Accurate records of their projects must be kept for three years. Records are then sent to a state com-mittee and studied very carefully. Lee Anderon is the son of Kent and Janet An-derson of Lindon. He is a senior at PGHS. His project involved raising a dairy heifer and keeping records for three years. Kerry Hoglund is the son of Bill and Mary Hoglund. Kerry worked in the farm placement program and he raised turkeys. Kerry is also a senior. ' The FFA is spon-soring the annual FFA Member-Paren- t Banq-uet to be held on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in the PI. Grove High School lunchroom. Keith Haynes. spoke to some 50 students Tuesday morning at the high school. Haynes spoke about a number of issues confronting -- the state and nation. He particularly addressed the proposed MX system that is to be built in. Utah and Nevada. Haynes Indicated that for various reasons he opposses the MX. primarily because there are better ways to strengthen our military power. MISSY HALLAM presents flowers to her first grade teacher, Carolyn Vance, during teacher appreciation week held recently at Central School. Teachers were honored with gifts, goodies, parties and a whole lot of fun. j " "- - 1 I r ' - . l I ; ( 1 J' Pvt. Scott Hudson Awarded Medal Pvt. Scott E. Hudson, son of Verla M. Chad-wic- k of Pleasant Grove, has been awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal for duties per-formed in support of Cuban refugee reset-tlement operations at Fort Chaffee, Ark. Scott is assigned at Fort Polk, La. Lindon Elementary Safety Poster Winners Named Winners of the Lindon Elementary School Safety Poster Contest, were Richard Lewis, Jodi Conder, Melissa Ridge, Meri Lynn Steele, Amy Mar-chbank- s, Haden Dain, and Andrea Magnusson. Each was judged by upper grade student representatives as having the best poster in their grade. Hopefully, the posters displayed through out the school halls will have an effect for good upon the students and prevent many accidents from happening. The Saftey Poster Contest was initiated and supervised by our resource teachers, Connie Tucker and Gayle Smith. El THERE IS NOTHING wrong with having nothing to say - unless you insist on saying it. CARDINAL NEWMAN Zimmerman To MC Pageant The Strawberry Days Scholarship Pageant Committee, under the direction of Sharon , Fullmer, is pleased to announce - Donald Zimmerman as this year's Master of Ceremonies. Zimmerman hosted the event last year and the committee feels fortunate in having him return this year to share his talents with our community. Zimmerman owns and instructs his own dance studio, "The Dance Factory," in Provo. He has danced on the 3 Osmond Show, Jimmy i and Kristi McNichol TV 1 Special, performed with I USAF Entertainment ri Showcase BYU Or-- 3 chesis, Theater Ballet, and Young Am-- 1 bassadors. Some of Zim-I merman's special awards and honors are: nominated as one of the - ten outstanding young s men of America; silver medal in International ' Latin American Dance; . first place Rodger for ! Air Force Worldwide Pot-pour- ri competition; I and second place Wilco for Air Force World wide vocal group competition. He is a member of the National Council of Dance Teachers Organizataions and United States Ter-psichore Dance Association. Zimmerman received his Master of Arts degree last August from BYU. He has published two books, "Disco with Donny and Marie" and "Close Dancing with Donny and Marie. " The Pageant will be held on April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove High School auditorium. Tickets are $2.00 each and can be purchased from any of the contestants or a member of the com-mittee. Please purchase tickets early as they will be sold on a first come first served basis. The committee ex-pects a very fine production for those participating and those who come to enjoy the pageant. The winner of the Scholarship Pageant becomes Miss Pleasant Grove and goes on to the Miss Utah Pageant. She will also win a cash scholarship to the college of her choice. ; LA colo !
