Show Alpine Arts Council To Present Recital appearances throughout the United States, including in-cluding debut recitals at the Organization of American States Hall in Washington D.C., and the Ambassador Recital Series in Pasadena, California. Duane Hulbert, first prize winner in the 1980 Gina Bachauer International In-ternational Piano Competition at Brigham Young University, will present a recital on Saturday 28 February at 8 p.m. in the Keith Beck home (468 East 100 South, Alpine). Seating is limited, to sixty people, therefore tickets are only being sold in advance. Admission is $3 a person (no babies will be admitted). Call 756-4807 for information. Works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Albeniz, and Barber will be performed. A reception for Hulbert will be held following the recital. Duane Hulbert was born in 1956 in St. Paul, Minnesota, and made his debut with the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra at age 16. He went on to study as a scholarship student with Sascha Gorodnitzki at the Juilliard School, where he has received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. The Juilliard School has awarded Hulbert the Alton Jones Memorial Scholarship, the Linda Jones Israel Memorial Scholarship and most recently, the highest award in the prestigious Gina Bachauer Memorial Scholarship. In 1978, Hulbert won the Juilliard Piano Concerto Con-certo Competition and appeared as soloist with the Juilliard Orchestra in Alice Tully Hall in New York City. His summers are spent at the Aspen Music Festival where he studies with Jeaneane Dowis and Samuel Lipman. Hulbert was first prize winner in the Portland Symphony Young Artist Competition,, Com-petition,, the Bryan Young Artist Competition Com-petition of the North Carolina Symphony, and the Bergen Philharmonic Young Artist Competition and appeared as soloist with each orchestra. He has also been soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Or-chestra and the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra. In June 1980, Hulbert was awarded first prize in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition at BYU. As a result he was given concerto and recital |
