Show New Principal Takes Reins At Valley View Dr. Larry Beveridge will be the new principal at Valley View Elementary School this year replacing Robert Emal who was assigned to another school within the district. He announced a new policy whereby the school will be dismissed each Monday at 2:15 p.m. Starting time is 8:55 a.m. This extra hour will be used for teacher preparation. Lunch tickets for elementary students will be 70 cents or a 20 ticket packet is sold for $14. Reduced and free lunches are available for those eligible. He reported that Back to School night will be held Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Beveridge said that he hopes that as a school Valley View can continue, with parental support, the strong emphasis on values education which Mr. Emal established at the school. He indicated that he plans to stress the importance of each person at the school being responsible, starting with himself and then involving teachers, staff and students in specific programs to accomplish this end. The students from this school have always done well scholastically, he noted. With the public's concern in the area of the basics he is convinced con-vinced that everyone will do an even better job in the future. Dr. Beveridge added that he will try to have the school accredited this year by the State Department of Education and that this will give an opportunity to look carefully at each aspect of the school's program. He has been with the Alpine School District as a teacher and principal for 22 years. He said he has appreciated ap-preciated this experience ex-perience and has learned a great deal from it. He said he is happy to return to Pleasant Grove where he was raised and educated. He enjoys the outdoors out-doors and likes to fish, hunt and ride motorcycles. motor-cycles. These things have taken a backseat in recent years, he noted, because he reads and studies faithfully each day. He received his B.S. and M. Ed. from BYU in elementary education and education administration ad-ministration and an M. Ed. and Ph. D. from the University of Utah in Science and Educational Administration. Ad-ministration. He and his wife, Darlene, are the parents of four children. The oldest daughter, Jolene, lives in Kearns. Gregory is a student at Utah State University. Janine is a senior at Pleasant Grove High School and David is a fourth grader at Grovecrest. Dr. Beveridge and his family live in Manila and are active in the Manila Fourth Ward. f ' . i - - 1 -I DR.
