Show THURSDAY, MARCH 6 loan THURSDAY. MARCH 6. 1980 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE. UTAH ifl ' Writer Wants 2 Sets of Queens for P.G. time because 1 care about three more girls. Please reconsider and let the people of Plea-sant Grove keep our voice and give three more girls the oppor-tunity to grow and develop while serving their community. to get along with the more growth. I asked a mother how she felt about it and she said, "My young daughters always look up to the girls in the royalty. I don't always agree with the panel of judges and I want a say in who my girls look up to." Where does the cost lie? An extra float for the celebration? I understand they want to increase the scholar-ship. I'm sure the Queen would rather leave the scholarship where it is rather than eliminate Miss Plea-sant Grove just so she could have more money. The Strawberry Days celebration is the longest continuous Letter to the Editor by Carol Harmer Last week at a meeting of the Straw-berry Days Associa-tion, it was decided that Miss Pleasant Grove and her attendants should no longer be part of the celebration. Why? "It's to much hassle" "It costs too much" "There is too much con-fusion with the names" "No other town has two sets of queens." In talking with some of the girls who have been part of the royal-ty, they feel that the hasle was with the girls inability to get along. If that is the case then it is a growing experience and the more there are celebration in Utah. It's also the most suc-cessful. Maybe that's because we still care about there being more winners than losers. I know it's hard to be one of the losers but more girls would try out when they know that even if they don't have that perfect figure and shapely body that they still have a chance with the people of the town. The purpose of the Queen is to represent Pleasant Grove and advertise Strawberry Days. Six can do a lot more advertising than 3. There is confusion between the names. Switch the names and let the judges pick Miss Pleasant Grove and the audience pick the Strawberry Days Queen and limit her ac-tivities to the celebra-tion. As our city grows, why should we lessen the chances for our youth to succeed? Is there really too much hassle and too little money or is it that adults are not willing to look for solutions. It's easier just to cancel. Things could be worked out and I for one am willing to donate my V James R. Haddock Gets Eagle Badge At Court of Honor James R. Assisting him as choreographer is Charlie Sorenson, who recently staged the dan-cing for Oliver. Charlies has created for the Showboat dancers some exciting, colorful steps out of this era of Americana. Third mem-ber of this directing team is Kay Asay, whose musical exper-tise has produced many choral groups. Strawberry Committee Says One Set of Queens Enough for PI. Grove During the February meeting, the Pleasant Grove Strawberry Days Committee voted to do away with the position and title of Miss Pleasant Grove and her two attendants and only have the Strawberry Days Queen. The committee voted after President Harold Jacklin had talked with the city council members. Chamber of Commerce directors, and others, and because of added expenses, felt this change was long overdue. Some years, a small number of entrants causes problems in that only a few losers feel worse, being in a definite minority. All the Strawberry Days Committee mem-bers voted for the change except one. The change has been discussed before, and has been coming for many years, they said. Elsewhere in the paper a letter to the editor gives the other side of the question, but as for now the decision of the committee will stand, President Jacklin said.
