Show Last Week's Action Roundabout Races on January 1 3 There was plenty of action to be found at the Round-About Dragstrip again last Saturday, plus lots of good entertainment. No matter what the weather you can watch in comfort because your in the warmth and comfort of your own car. The action started with the new '2 wheel class'. Garrett Bennett in his 46 Ford surprised sur-prised a lot of people, as he took the lead away from the current Class Winner, Scott Hubbard, for 2 out of 2 heats. Gary Carter in a borrowed Blazer proved its skill as well as machinery that wins the tyrophy. He was up against Ed Petersons Peter-sons good looking red and white Chev. Gary won 2 out of 2 for the win in the Pleasure Class. There was another new comer at the Drags this week in the form of Leroy Page in of all things a beautiful brand spanking new 79 Ford Stock Vi ton. No one paid a lot of attention atten-tion to Leroy because he's a quiet guy and he just stood back and observed for a while. But when his class was called he was ready and waiting. When it got to the final it was Leroy against Robert Noble and his big black Chev. Leroy took 2 out of 2 for the winning trophy in the Vi ton stock class. Ted Atencio and his modified Dodge left Chuck Goode looking at his tail lights as he crossed for the win in the 'A ton modified class. By the time the Vt tons were called up the strip was pretty muddy. mud-dy. Rob Andreason's past experience paid off. He moved out further fur-ther on the track to make new grooves for his tires. The 1st heat was Robs, but his opponent, op-ponent, Larry Webb was ready for him on the second round. The ended tied or a dead heat. 3rd try proved lucky for Rob as he crossed the line in the lead and took home the trophy. It took 3 tries for Mark Byeers to come out the winner in the Jeep Class. His competitor com-petitor Jim Long proved to be pretty stiff competition. But Mark made it in the 3rd heat. Mike Nagle was back this week with his fast moving V.W. powered buggy and Randy Warenski was right there trying once again to beat him. But Randy's Ran-dy's still got a few bugs to take care of. Mike and his buggy just powered across the finish for 2 out of 2 in the Dune Buggy Class. There were only 2 gals willing to compete in this weeks Powder Puff and one of them had to borrow a truck. Kathy Nagel had to put the pedal down hard to stay ahead of Vickie Warenski but she made it to take her second trophy in 2 weeks. There was some beatiful machinery entered en-tered in the Top Eliminator Class. Dodges, Chevys, Fords, For-ds, at the end of the 2nd heat Gary Carter and Leroy Page each had won Once. In the 3rd heat they were neck and neck off the starting line by the finish, Gary was about a bumper ahead. It was really a beautiful race to watch. |
