P.G. hit 8 straight free throws in the final minutes to preserve the win. by Chub Gillman The Vikings basketball basket-ball team split two Region 6 games last week as they lost a heartbreaker to Cedar Thursday, 67-70, and then came back to knock off Payson 59-48 on Friday. The Vikings seemed to lack their usual intensity, in-tensity, and Cedar took advantage with the hot shooting of Jensen and Cory. Mark Atwood kept the game close with 8 rebounds and 16 points, and Kevin Peay added 16 from the outside, out-side, but the Vikings had trouble of defense as the Redmen were able to work the ball inside in-side for good shots. P.G. had a one point lead with 58 seconds left, but a missed shot gave Cedar the ball and the lead. The Vikings then went down and another tough luck shot for the Vikes made things look hopeless, until hustling Dave Ratliff stole the ball with 23 seconds on the clock. The Redmen then stole the ball right back and put it away with 2 foul shots with only 2 seconds remaining. Payson Game Close The Payson game was also close and was a real shooting match between P.G.'s Peay |
