Vance Green of Plea-sant Grove announce the marriage of the daughter Karen to Cory M. Olson son of Jerry R. Olson and the late, Donna M. Olson of Orem, on Thursday Oc-tober 25, 1979. A reception will honor them that same evening at the Colonial House, 187 West Main, Lehi. Attending the bride as Maid of honor will be Rosa Lee Barnes, Brides maids will be Jackie Fay, Sandra Johnson, Peggy Frampton, Shelly Buckley, Denise Olson. Best man duties will be performed by Craig Olson, brother of the groom. After their mar-riage the couple will reside in Pleasant Grove. Karen Green and Cory M. Olson Regional Young Adults Halloween Party Is Set The Regional Young Adults Halloween par-ty will be held in the Pleasant Grove East Stake House Friday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. Western dress, and a bring your own bean bag chairs, will be the feature of the evening, and all young adults in this area are encourag-ed to come and see what is going to happen. Cora C. Newman Has 85th Birthday Mrs. Cora C. Newman was honored by her family on the event of her 85th birthday an-niversary with a Satur-day breakfast a a local cafe and a family gathering Sunday even-ing at her home 309 East Center Street. Mrs. Newman was born in Lindon, October 14, 1894 to William James and Lizzie Keetch Cullimore. She married Clarence O. Newman November 26, 1913 in the Salt Lake LDS Tem-ple. With the exception of a few years in Lyndell and Salt Lake City, she has lived all of her married life in Plea-sant Grove. worth of Salinas, Calif. One son,. Richard C. Newman is deceased. They also raised a granddaughter, Connie Marshall of Bejlevue, Washington. They have 27 grandchildren and 61 gread grand children. She is an excellent gardener as shown by the beautiful flowers and shrubs surrounding their home. Mrs. Newman has been active in temple work and in the aux-iliary organization of the LDS church all of her life. The Newmans are the parents of seven children. They are Clarence J. Penrod Joan Hooley, Melvin J. Penrod Set Wedding Date Joan Hooley and Melvin J. Penrod have set Friday, Oct. 19 as their wedding day. Joan is the son of Garn and Beverly Hooley and Melvin is the son of Bob and Jessie Penrod, both of Pleasant Grove. The young couple will be honored at an open house that same even ing at the bride's home, 525 South 1250 East in Pleasant Grove, with receiving from 8 to 10 p.m. All friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend. The young couple plan to make their first home in Orem following their marriage. June Monson Gives Book Review Oct. 17 On Wednesday Oct 17, June Monson reviewed the book "Family Kingdon" by Samuel W. Taylor. This was a most enjoyable experience for her listeners and all ap-preciated her excellent presentation. This was a story of the trials faced by pioneers who were call-ed to build com-munities in an in-hospitable frontier. On Wednesday Oct 24, at 4 p.m. at the Recreation Building, on 200 South, in Pleasant Grove, Kenneth Slater, a seminary teacher in the Alpine School District will present a review of the first LDS Edition of the King James Bible. This will be of interest to every family who is teaching the scriptures in the home. Everyone should have this beautiful Bi-ble in his home as it is color coded and d especially for LDS families. Variety Club Entertained Dorothy Walker enter-tained members of the Variety Club last Thursday evening at her home. An enjoyable evening was spent visitng and discussing summer vac-tion- A delicious luncheon was served to Earlin Walker, Thelma Swen-son- , Beth Warburton, Evelyn Schoonover, Myrle Armitstead, Juanita Larsen and Mary Swenson. Dorothy was assisted by her daughter Arliss. She received a gift from her Secret Pal. Young Adults Invited to Have Fun on October 25th The Young Adults from Pleasant Grove, American Fork, Alpine, and Lehi are all invited to have some Hallo-ween fun on Thursday Oct 25th at the usual dance location (200 South 450 East in PI. Grove). Come at 7 p.mjfc. and stay four full hours of games, dancing, goodies and a surprise movie. Be sure to bring a big pillow, $1.50 and a 27 from 8 to 12 noon. Hospital Notes Among babies born at the American Fork Hospital during the past week were the following to parents from the Pleasant Grove and Lindon area. Oct. 10, a girl to Bruce and Cally Woolstenhulme Ed-wards of American Fork. Oct. 13, a boy to Bernell and RaNae Barney Taylor. Oct. 14, a boy to Steve and Kathy Peter-son Gorton. Jr. High PTA Meeting Held on October 5 Thanks was given by the PTA board to parents who par-ticipated in the back to school night. The PTA meeting for Pleasant Grove Jr. High was held on Oct. 5 at 9:30 p.m. The survey that was taken at the back to school night was discussed. The three most important pro-blems of the parents are: 1. The respect the students should show to the teachers and ad-ministrators. The teachers showing respect for the students also. 2. More cooperation between parents, teachers and the PTA board, by involving parents in school ac-tivities, and more two-wa- y communication. 3. Encourage students to support the Clean Speech cam-paign. The PTA money was voted on by the members and they voted to get some kind of band uniforms. The studentbody represen-tatives took a survey of the students and they felt the money should be used to benefit everybody. A dance for the students will be held Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. The group to play is the Por-traits. Refreshments will be served. Eighth Ward to Present South Seas Spectacular Pleasant Grove 5th Ward presents a "South Seas Spec-tacular" Sat, Oct. 27, 7 p.m. at the P.G. Stake Center. Featured will be an exotic meal and live entertainment by "The Aloha Islanders" a pro-fessional Polynesian Entertainment group. There will be a $5 per person donation. |
