Packs Wins Title Monday, Invitation Tourney Saturday The all played well but Monday night's city softball championship game belonged to Steve Francom. The Pack Masonry centerfielder and league leader in batting, home runs and runs batted in, did it all. With Packs leading Wil's shor-tstop, Mike Shoell lofted the ball deep to center. Francom went back and caught the ball as he was knocking down the temporary fence, robbing Shoell of a homer. In the third inning the left handed power hitter ripped a solo homer to right field. Back on defense, Francom charged Leroy Maughn's single up the middle and threw a strike to cat-cher Stan Pack, cutting down Jon Hoover who was trying to score from second. Francom's fifth inning appearance at the plate produced a towering two run homer and in the seventh he had a double to finish the game three for four with two home runs and three rbi's. Just for fun, Francom won the home run hitting contest and was on the winning ball relay team in contest that followed the championship game. Trailing 9-- Paul Schoonover drew a walk. Dean Jensen then bounced one off the wall down the line to score Schoonover and start a Wil's rally. Norm Crosby reached first on an error and Kenny Kindle followed with a three run homer making the score 9-- 4 with Packs still leading but the game was now interesting. Packs final run came when Ed An-derson doubled and scored on John Becks two bagger. Schoonover drove in the games last run with a blooper just inside the left field line. For Pack's, it's the fourth straight year winning the city title. For Wil's it was a good season having come back from a mediocre first half to win the second half of league play and force a championship game. Alan Green scattered four hits and was credited with the win. The Spanish Fork Swim Team needed more than a "home pool" ad-vantage to stay in the race against Pleasant Grove last Thursday, as they scored only 94 points to P.G. 432. 68 events were listed and there were 36 where only PI. Grove swim-mers entered, therefore scoring all points possible in those events. The events for 15-1- 8 year olds were a problem for both teams. The butter fly, backstroke and breast stroke were cancelled for lack of en-tries. Six veteran swimmers won easy firsts, with no one else in the pool they only needed to finish.
