Show LDS Council Designates November Family Month The Utah Valley LDS Communications Council, Coun-cil, adding momentum to a month-long family event it created last year, has again designated November as Utah Valley Family Month and has organized a committee of 100 to assure its success. suc-cess. McLean will direct the efforts of 100 volunteers who are organizing and publicizing the big event. Included in the group are LDS public communication directors direc-tors from each of 51 stakes of the Church in Utah Valley, a class of BYU public relations students who are preparing special feature stories on Utah Valley family life, and directors and co-directors co-directors and publisists of the four weeks planned plan-ned for the event. The schedule includes Family Fun Week November 4 - 10, Family Physical Fitness Fit-ness Week November 11-17, National Family Week November 18-24, and Family of the Year Week November 25-30. The event, which is community-wide in scope with all churches invited to participate, was endorsed last year by local Congressional and Senate representatives, represen-tatives, and every mayor in Utah Valley. To begin the festivities, Saturday, November 4 will be "Family Day at the Mall" under the direction direc-tion of Chairman Lee Nelson, featuring top entertainment acts to be announced soon. On Monday night, November 6. all Utah Valley families regardless regar-dless of faith, are encouraged en-couraged to hold Family Home Evening, a time when everyone can gather together. The rest of the week, in support of its "Family Fun Week" theme, is just that. A valley-wide Family Film Festival, beginning begin-ning Tuesday, Nov. 7, provides local families the opportunity to see excellent, specially selected family films a number of them old favorites in Payson, Spanish Fork, Springville, Provo, Orem, Pleasant Grove, American Fork, Lehi, and Lindon. "It's our way of putting put-ting the spotlight on fine family entertainment, entertain-ment, and encouraging the participating theaters in the presentation presen-tation of wholesome, worthwhile entertainment entertain-ment throughout the year," said Gary Sadler, who heads the Family Film Festival Committee. " O b-viously, b-viously, we hope families of Utah Valley will turn out en masse for these excellent film presentations." Three movies will be shown, free of charge, at the Provo Tabernacle Taber-nacle "Uncle Ben," "The Christmas Gift," and "The Mailbox." All are award-winning movies produced by the BYU Media Production Studio. While all this is going on, nominations are being received for the Family Physical Fitness Fit-ness and Utah Valley Family of the year awards. All Utah Valley residents are eligible to be nominated for the awards. Both are directed toward singling out families who best represent the highest ideals of family physcial fitness and family togetherness. Nomination details will be announced shortly. Family Physcial Fitness Fit-ness Award will be given to entire families (rather than individuals) in-dividuals) during a special half-time ceremony at the BYU-San BYU-San Diego State football foot-ball game on Saturday, Nov. 11. Co-directors of . Family Physcial Fitness Fit-ness Week are Diane Chamberlain and Bruce Holley, faculty members mem-bers of BYU's College of Physical Education. In support of National Family Week which begins Sunday, November 20, Family Month will take on a more reflective emphasis. em-phasis. Highlighted by Thanksgiving Day, semi-finalists for the Family of the Year Award will be announced announ-ced in local newspapers. Director of the week is Karen Bybee. Wrapping up Utah Valley Family Month will be the Family of the Year Award, to be announced on Thursday, Thur-sday, November 23. A special blue-ribbon panel working Dr. Gary Hansen and Mrs. Stella Oaks will select the family, who in their opinion, personifies the components of strong, well-directed family life.
